💓Losing him created Haven of Birth & Wellness💓
Your first thought may be wondering if this was accidentally posted on the business page instead of my personal page. It was not an accident 🩷
Many of you may have talk to me and heard or read my bio about my journey into midwifery and while it is absolutely true, without losing my dad I don’t know if I would be a midwife or if Haven of Birth would exist right now.
This is the 10 year anniversary of my dad being gone and though I never thought that I would be making a social media post about this, I felt moved to share this and honor what has been lost for us to be here today.
Ten years ago everything changed in a moment over one phone call, my dad had passed away in an act of extreme violence. The first 9 months after his passing, I was drowning in a very deep and dark place due to the circumstances of his death. I am so thankful for God, the support of people around me, medication, and EMDR for pulling me out of such darkness. At that time in my life, I worked in a completely different field and while I did do some doula-ing and encapsulation over the years, it was not a focus while supporting a family. I always thought when my kids graduated high school that maybe I would go into midwifery but after experiencing a loss in such a traumatic way made me think of all the “maybe one days” that my dad must have thought or dreamed of and never got to experience. How life could truly end in a moment. I knew that I was not walking in my calling and at the year mark of his passing, I started going back to school. And here we are today, Haven of Birth & Wellness.
To be honest, I have wrestled over the years with guilt at times of how something so beautiful as this practice and getting to serve so many families could come out of something so heinous and heartbreaking. But felt it was important to share this deeply personal experience for a few reasons:
1)To honor and acknowledge how God has worked something so terrible into transforming my life and how that has served so many of you
2) Encouragement as many of you have walked through heartbreak, loss, and discouraging seasons
3) Grief can be such a winding road through many valleys and mountains. Never be ashamed to get the support you need. You are important! You need to be in a good place for you, your kids, your family. You deserve to feel well 🩷
