Designed with families in mind and using “best practice” examples from sister institutions across the country, the facility offers a home-like setting with an open floor plan, gathering places for family g

roups, teens and children as well as secluded areas for quiet reflection. FedExFamilyHouse is LEED Gold certified and is one of the country's first sustainable, green pediatric residence facilities. LEED is the country’s benchmark for green building design and construction. Children and their families come from all over the U.S. and the world to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for expert treatment. Each year, more than 2,500 families travel farther than 150 miles for Le Bonheur’s services. Some come from thousands of miles away seeking very specialized care. Most of these families find themselves without the support systems they depend on at home. Some are lucky enough to have extended family or friends join them. All of them want to stay as close as possible to their child. FedExFamilyHouse is a comfortable retreat from life in the hospital. FedExFamilyHouse is a landmark that exemplifies corporate citizenship, a genuine sense of hospitality and heartfelt concern for Le Bonheur patients and families.

Daniel and Ashley’s son, Cayden, was initially given a 5% chance of survival. His health conditions meant he would be born with half of a heart that was positioned on the wrong side of the chest and that other organs in the chest and abdomen would not be in their typical position.

Their journey brought them to Le Bonheur as they followed Dr. Brett Mettler, their local children's hospital cardiac surgeon, when he became chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Le Bonheur.

While Cayden receives ongoing treatment at Le Bonheur, their family stays at FedExFamilyHouse. The house provides a home away from home for out-of-town families who travel to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital for care.

We were honored to welcome some special guests to FedExFamilyHouse and Le Bonheur Children's Hospital during our gala weekend! Our guests included Television host, comedian and Memphis native Chris Hardwick; Broadway performer Telly Leung and Telly's pianist, Gary. Together, they toured the hospital with the gala's Honorary Chairs, Julie and John Smith, to witness the important work happening at Le Bonheur every day.

The day featured a lunch reception with Le Bonheur's President, Dr. Trey Eubanks, and a tour of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) led by Dr. Bret Mettler, executive co-director of Le Bonheur's Heart Institute. The guests also visited the helipad where our Pedi-Flite transports take place, enjoying a stunning view of Memphis and the iconic Le Bonheur heart.

The day concluded with a tour of FedExFamilyHouse, where they met the Hathaway family, including Cayden, a Le Bonheur Heart Institute patient. Cayden showcased his musical talent by playing the piano for Telly.
