Nourish with Connection Pediatric Dietitian & Foster/Adoptive mom lowering mealtime stress to help connection grow and allow our kids to thrive!

10/16/2026

Hi, I’m a pediatric dietitian and foster/adoptive mom with both professional and personal experience with feeding challenges.👩‍⚕️

Food insecurity is defined as lack of access to an affordable, nutritious diet.

Please do not assume your child has not been food insecure because they don’t look “small” or “underweight”.🚫

If you notice any unusual food-related behaviors like food hoarding, never feeling full, or always asking about food — these are big signs that they have experienced food insecurity.💔

This child will need trauma-informed care from you with a focus on establishing felt safety and connection.🛟

Luckily, that’s what I’m all about so make sure to follow along and DM me with any specific questions!🫶

Please share this to help raise awareness and help our kids heal. ❤️‍🩹

Be an example and show your kids that it’s OK to enjoy sweet treats. And remind your kids that their Halloween candy will not disappear overnight.🌙

Being able to savor their hard-earned treats throughout the year is much more fun than over-doing it and running out in the first week.🍫

I understand there could be medical concerns with certain conditions like type I diabetes or food allergies which is understandable, but please don’t tell your kids they can’t participate, because candy is toxic. 🚫

Remember, a little extra sugar and extra fun won’t hurt. Enjoy watching your kids enjoy it!👻

I’d love to know what your favorite candy is! Let me know below (I’ll share first).🧡🖤

Pomegranates are back in season right now and my kids are SO excited!

Pomegranate season is typically from October - January.

As a dietitian I know how important it is to introduce new foods in a fun way with no pressure.

Here are a few ways to do this:
✅Serve the new food with a familiar food
✅Do not forcing or ask for bites
✅Model your own enjoyment of the food
✅Call it something exciting like “pomegranate rubies” or “pirates treasure”

My favorite way to encourage health for kids (and adults) is to focus on what you can add rather than what to take away — because this is what actually works.

The more whole foods you can add over time, the easier it is for it become a regular part of your diet. It just takes time, exposure, and a positive attitude!

Let me know if you give this a try.

Parenting can be so hard.

Parenting kids who have medical diagnoses, special needs, neurodivergence, or a history of trauma is even harder.

Don’t forget that as a parent, you keep showing up for your kids.

Don’t forget to celebrate the small wins.

Accomplishing your goals should not be celebrated more than raising your kids.

Your labor is not in vain. You’re raising precious humans.

To the weary mom, you are enough. 💗

Eating meals together as a family will yield more benefits to your child’s longterm health than making sure they get X number of fruits and vegetables.💞

This may sound like an opinion, but there’s actually a lot of data to support this. I’ll be happy to send/share some scientific resources if it helps, just let me know!🤗

The fun by product is that the more they enjoy being with family and feel safe at the table, the more likely they will be to try more foods.🙌

Early on, as a pediatric dietitian I felt pressure to make sure my kids had a mostly healthy diet, but with time as a parent, I’ve seen that it’s much more important to teach my kids about health holistically.🧘‍♀️

Of course feeding kids isn’t always this simple, and our journey hasn’t been perfect. But it is possible to raise healthy kids with a healthy relationship with food!🌟

This is exactly what I teach in the Mindful Mealtime Playbook— A digital guide teaching you how to nourish your child with food, connection, and confidence. (Coming Soon!!)

To get the info as soon as it’s available, comment “playbook” and I’ll add you to the list!🎉

One of our former foster daughters turned 18 a few weeks ago, but the last time we had contact with her was 6 years ago.

As a foster parent who truly loves and cares about every child that enters their home, you never forget any of them. Whether it was for one day, one week, or one month, you never stop wondering how they’re doing after they leave.

Wherever you are, I want you to know that our time with you made a lasting impact. So many things remind me of you like Hop Doddy’s burgers, taco Tuesdays, your old elementary school, and of course, BTS…

You were so mature for your age when you were only 12. I could tell that even though sometimes your younger siblings got on your nerves, you had a strong sense of obligation to support and protect them.

You were so smart, polite, and curious.

I remember you asking deep questions about faith and the Trinity. I pray that you have found answers from the only source of truth. I pray you have been supernaturally protected and provided for.

There’s so much I would love to tell you about, but I don’t know if this will find you.

If it does, I hope you feel comfortable to reach out and let me know if you’re doing OK.

Love, the Tylers

I love my lemon juicer, but I had already used it and it was under a pile of dirty dishes, so using my blender was the next best thing — actually turns out it was even better!🍋

I wouldn’t recommend this method if you don’t plan to use the blender for anything else, because the less washing of dishes the better!🧼

Adding lemon juice is great when wanting to add a little extra vitamin C to frozen treats and smoothies!💊

Do you have a lemon juicer? I do and I really enjoy having it. Let me know if the comments👇

We're exactly 2 weeks away!! I’m excited to be part of Beyond Behavior: Parenting Through the Tough Stuff, a new parent workshop happening October 24 at Germantown Behavioral Solutions!

I’ll be joining local professionals across counseling, behavior, pediatrics, and nutrition for practical conversations around the things parents are navigating every day...big emotions, anxiety, defiance, sensory overwhelm, screen battles, shutdowns, and more.

This isn’t about having all the answers or even having a diagnosis. It’s about helping parents better understand what may be happening beneath the behavior and giving them practical things they can try at home.

🎟️ Tickets are $20 and limited to 30 parents.
Scholarship tickets are also available.

Comment ME and I'll send you the link!

A child shouldn’t have to “earn” dessert. ➡️ This doesn’t mean I hand them a giant bowl of ice cream after they barely touched their meal.

This means if they don’t eat very much, I lean in and ask questions…

“Are you feeling OK?”
“Does something not taste right?”

And if there’s no obvious reason for the lack of appetite, I’ll provide some low-pressure encouragement like:

“Having some protein and other nutrients with a sweet treat will help our bodies tolerate it better so we can feel our best”.

I might make a suggestion like “what would make this taste better?”

If none of the encouragement or suggestions work, I’d serve a small portion of the sweet treat, and let them know if there will or will not be time for an evening snack later.

That’s it.

When we require our kids to earn dessert, dessert becomes the thing they want most.

Requiring a certain number of bites or eating vegetables in order to earn dessert increases stress around meals and it elevates dessert foods making them much more desirable.😳

Instead, I recommend to create a positive experience around food, use food neutral language, and focus on connection at meals.🫶
