How Daphne feels after listening to Mom read a nursing theory article aloud for the last hour.

Applying Nursing Theory in real time:

I have 4 articles to read for this module before my quiz in two weeks. The third article stated that when learning something new you should employ as many senses as possible for maximum retention. So of course I read article four aloud, because I'm a Tactile, Audio, Visual learner (except the article also said that visual learning includes reading and I would much rather watch something be done than hear about it. But if visual is only reading, then yes. Tactile, Audio, Visual)

The third article also stated that you should stick to 3-7 new concepts for each learning session for maximum retention because the brain can only comprehend 10.

Not only was the last article the least concrete, but it was also written in a way that was incredibly hard to follow. I did retain a few points though, so I guess employing the audio was a win.

“Your niche is often the person that you were 3-5 years ago.” As a business owner who has a heart for so many different facets of health, this statement really helped put that into perspective and told me WHY I have a problem ‘narrowing down’ my niche.

Who was I 3-5 years ago? It was 6 years ago that I really started my journey to a healthy lifestyle and 5 years ago that my world imploded.

So Five years ago: I was a wife. Nurse. Dog Mom. Starting to feel her way into this new “healthy” lifestyle. I didn’t know much about essential oils, or diets, or toxins in the environment. Let alone the toxic abusive relationship that I was in. I didn’t know that relationships effect my physical health too.

Three years ago: I was just starting to find the courage to look at the pieces of my imploded world. I was still newly/rawly divorced. I was a proud Aunt. Nurse. Dog Mom. A lover of essential oils. A believer of “food is medicine”, someone who knew a lot about toxins in the environment, but was still learning about how relationships and how to heal from that trauma.

Today: I am still a proud Aunt.. Dog Mom. I’m an essential oil guru, a believer of a clean environment (both physically and mentally). I’m a board certified, holistic, health and wellness nurse coach. An entrepreneur. I’m trauma informed. I’m addicted to healthy whole foods and I guard my relationships like the hope diamond.

Who is my niche? I’m here for the answer seekers. The health curious. I’m here for the wives, the divorced, the single. Those that know what they are doing isn’t working, yet are confused by the information that is out there. I’m here for those that are asking questions and need encouragement, guidance, or a motivator to reach their goals. I’m here for you!

Valor is an amazing multipurpose oil, and I love that it comes in a roller bottle!

Roll it on your feet (under your toes) for more ZZZZzzzzz.

Roll it over your heart for more courage, calm, or grounding 🧘‍♀️.

Roll it on your jaw if you hold it too tight when you're overwhelmed, especially before bed!

Protip: this one will stain your clothes blue, so be sure to rub it in well.

How do you use Valor?

Don't get discouraged!

Yesterday, I needed out! Out of the house, out of my head. I needed vitamin D and nature bathing. I needed to move my body.

So, I left a very full plate and headed for the hills.

Everything started off fine. DSmithPack was on their best behavior, and everyone noticed! We received so.many.complements!

Then the trail narrowed. Things got hard to manage side by side, so I decided to work on a new skill. Making them line up behind me when the trail gets tight. I became frustrated! They wanted so badly to be where they were taught to be, where they were comfortable being, that the new skill seemed impossible to learn.

Then someone noticed us. The struggle and the achievement' The fact that at 9 years old, I still stretch their minds. I forced us all out of our comfort zones to learn something that would benefit us.

Was it fun? Not really. Did they do it. Yes! They did so well for their first time out. And I had to remember not to expect perfection on the first go.

When you start toward a new health goal, give yourself grace to learn, to be messy, and embrace the difficult. You can achieve your goals in the end!

As you strive for your goals, remember those behind you who are looking at you. They want to be where you are! They are striving to achieve what you already have! Take a minute and appreciate everything you have already accomplished. Then dig in for the next climb!
