This small device is changing how we understand metabolic health in real time.
A Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM), such as the FreeStyle Libre 3, is a tool that measures glucose levels continuously throughout the day and night.
Unlike a single blood draw or fingerstick, a CGM provides a full pattern of how glucose is responding in real time, including after meals, during sleep, and in response to activity.
This type of data is especially useful in metabolic health and when using GLP-1 medications (such as semaglutide-based therapies), because it helps clinicians better understand:
-How consistently glucose levels are controlled throughout the day
-How different meals impact glucose spikes and variability
-How insulin sensitivity is changing over time
-How a patient is responding metabolically to treatment
In clinical practice, this allows for more precise decision-making rather than relying on isolated lab values.
The goal is not perfection in a single reading—it’s understanding trends over time to better support metabolic health, weight management, and long-term outcomes.
If you’re curious about whether a CGM could be helpful for your own health journey, talk with a qualified medical provider to see if it’s appropriate for you.
