No one is saying peptides are not the future of medicine. From a functional medicine perspective, peptides represent an exciting and rapidly evolving area of healthcare with the potential to support healing, recovery, metabolic health, and overall wellness. At the same time, it is important to recognize that many peptides currently being marketed have limited long-term human data, and sourcing, manufacturing standards, and quality control can vary significantly.

As clinicians, our responsibility is to thoughtfully evaluate emerging therapies and balance innovation with patient safety.

This is why, at Island DPC, we utilize pharmaceutical-grade peptides when clinically appropriate. We prioritize transparency, quality, and evidence-informed decision-making so patients can feel confident in the therapies they receive.

Peptides have an exciting role in the future of medicine, and they already have an important place in what we do. As research continues to evolve, we believe patients deserve access to therapies that emphasize both innovation and quality while supporting a personalized, functional medicine approach to health.

A little reminder before the weekend…

You do not need to be “perfect” Saturday and Sunday to make progress.

Most of the time it’s the little things that make the biggest difference:
• Getting protein in early
• Staying hydrated
• Moving your body, even if it’s just a walk
• Enjoying your favorite foods without turning the whole weekend into a free-for-all
• Getting to bed at a reasonable time

Your health isn’t built by what you do once. It’s built by what you do most of the time.

Enjoy the weekend. Have the dinner out. Eat the dessert. Make the memories.

Just try not to spend Monday feeling like you have to start over.

Which weekend habit helps you feel your best?

One of the biggest hormone myths? Thinking a monthly period automatically means everything is working perfectly.

Because a cycle showing up each month doesn’t automatically tell us:

• if you’re ovulating consistently
• if ovulation is occurring earlier or later than expected
• if your follicular phase is supportive
• if your luteal phase is adequate
• what symptoms your body may be trying to communicate

This is why I ask so many questions.

Not because I’m searching for problems. Not because I want you to feel like something is wrong with you.

I’m trying to help you understand your body beyond a calendar app.

Your cycle is more than “Did I get a period this month?”

Your body gives clues all month long.

Did anyone ever teach you to look for them?

Your gut bacteria are starving and your probiotic isn’t going to save them.

Fibermaxxing is having a moment, and as someone who talks about gut health every single day, I’m not mad about it.

Here’s what the trending videos aren’t covering though:

Most Americans eat 10–15g of fiber daily. Guidelines recommend 25–38g. In functional medicine we push even higher.

That gap is why so many women are dealing with estrogen that won’t clear, blood sugar that won’t stabilize, and energy that crashes before lunch.

Fiber isn’t just a digestion thing. It’s the foundation your entire gut microbiome runs on.

Start with real food: 🥑 Avocado 🍓 Berries 🫘 Lentils 🌱 Ground flaxseed

Build from there before spending another dollar on supplements.

And if you’ve been doing everything right and still feel off we should talk. Link in bio.

Genetic testing has become really popular, especially in the longevity and wellness world. I see a lot of people wanting to know: “What does my DNA say about my future?”
I’m not against genetic testing at all, but I always come back to one question… what are we trying to learn?
Because sometimes people get results back and immediately think they found the answer. But many of these are genetic variations that may influence risk, not guarantee outcomes.
Your genes matter, but so do the things we do every day.
Sleep. Nutrition. Stress. Movement. Relationships. Metabolic health.
You are not just a report on a piece of paper.
Sometimes the better question isn’t “Should I do genetic testing?” Sometimes it’s “How would this information actually change what I do?”
✨ Curious what you think, would you want genetic testing done?

HRT does not have to look the same for everyone.
Just because your friend is on a specific hormone regimen does not automatically mean it is the best option for you. Hormone replacement therapy can vary based on symptoms, goals, medical history, preferences, and individual response.
There are also different approaches to HRT. Some approaches provide more static hormone levels, while others aim to more closely mimic physiologic patterns in the body.
Some women may prioritize symptom relief while others may focus on sleep, bone health, quality of life, or long term wellness goals.
This is why HRT should be an individualized discussion with your healthcare provider rather than a one size fits all approach.

Functional medicine is fascinating because it looks at how the body’s systems are interconnected. But even with deeper testing and individualized insights, if we are not nourishing our bodies with balanced nutrition and moving in ways that support our health, we can end up fighting an uphill battle.

We are never aiming for perfection. We are aiming for balance and sustainability. The question becomes: How can we realistically incorporate healthy habits into your life?

That is why through The Restoration Pathway, we include one on one health coaching with a registered nurse and certified health coach. The goal is to help you create realistic changes, support your goals, provide accountability, and look at the bigger picture of your health.

Because individualized care is not just about information. It is about having support while turning that information into lasting change.

Your gut is talking. The question is whether we’re paying attention.

These five signs are some of the most common things I see overlooked, not because people don’t care, but because somewhere along the way we started normalizing feeling off. Bloated after meals, exhausted for no reason, skin that won’t calm down. We chalk it up to stress or getting older and keep pushing through.

But here’s what I want you to know, these are signals, not sentences. Your body isn’t broken. It’s asking for support.

Follow for more insider information on what your body may be trying to tell you!

Does this look familiar?

You’re exhausted.
You don’t feel like yourself anymore.
Getting out of bed feels hard.
You’re canceling plans because honestly… you just don’t feel well.

Your labs keep coming back “normal.”
Nothing major is showing up.
And while you’re grateful it’s not a serious disease… you still feel bad.

Sometimes people start wondering if it’s “just stress” or if they’re somehow making it up because everything technically looks “fine.”

But symptoms are still information.

Fatigue, brain fog, painful periods, bloating, mood changes, poor sleep, anxiety, feeling inflamed all the time, feeling disconnected from yourself… these things matter even when standard testing doesn’t give a simple answer right away.

You deserve to feel heard, supported, and fully evaluated not dismissed because your labs fell inside a reference range.

Feeling “not sick enough” does not automatically mean you feel healthy.

The significance of the conversation shifting from PCOS to PMOS is huge.

For years, many women were dismissed or overlooked because providers became fixated on the presence (or absence) of “cysts” on the ovaries. In reality, those “cysts” are typically multiple small immature follicles, and not every woman with PCOS even has them on ultrasound.

This shift helps move the conversation away from the misconception that this is simply an ovarian cyst condition.

PCOS/PMOS is increasingly being recognized as a whole-body metabolic and hormonal syndrome that can affect insulin signaling, inflammation, ovulation, skin, mood, fertility, and long-term health, not just the ovaries.

We are hopeful this evolution in language helps more women feel seen, validated, and properly evaluated based on the full picture of what their body is experiencing, not solely an ultrasound finding.
