"A rose by any other name... " one of my favorite shakespeare quotes.
How many of you have rose tattoos!?
This is a perfect example of a concept I often try to illustrate for my clients when deciding on rendering style. (As a true generalist I have worked hard to, and taken pride in, being able to tattoo virtually any style very well, often as well as if not better than artists who specialize in only one. This is because of cross application of techniques- each technique adds to the others. So at the start of each project, we decide on "rendering style.")
On the left we have a hyperrealistic artistically rendered, photo realistic, detailed photograph of a rose- Which can be tattooed perfectly faithfully with consideration for placement and scale.
On the right, a super simplistic tattoo rose in the traditional/americana/old school style. One is a $100-150 rose. One is a $1000 rose.
Both perfectly valid, valued, with their own artist merits cultural significance and aesthetic. No judgment there! art is in the eye of the beholder.
I have done both styles of tattoo for people who have requested them.
My question is, IF what you want is a photorealistic rose (or a rose logo, or a rendering of a family crest rose or the rose from Game of Throne's house Tyrell, or a perfect rendition of the rose your kid drew!! -all of these take different techniques and approach )
Why get a $100 rose when you can spend a 100 dollars to get the first step for a 1000 rose?
This doesnt mean the tattoo is "incomplete" or Looks incomplete- you always come to a good stopping point.
ive actually had clients request to keep their linework for some time because it was just so pretty!
The problem is, as i have often witnessed and even been victim to, some tattoo shops will look at you when you walk in and deem you to have a $100 on you. So theyll only offer you a $100 rose.
Worse, they may even try and overcharge you for it.
Like a used car dealership, theyll never show you $1000 rose bc they dont think you can afford it, and if you see it, and want it, you might delay and save for it.
But the problem is, different from a used car, you cant buy the toyota you can afford now and buy a lexus later. The photorealistic rose is a lot harder to do with a traditional rose in the way.
I have always operated on the principal that people should get the tattoo that they WANT. And they can. Whether its all at once, or $100 at a time, or one hour at a time. My creative approach is to work with people side by side to design the tattoo that they want, and i can even offer financing, payment plans, and work with budgets to always arrive at beautiful stopping points and jaw dropping final results.
Ive been wanting to do a project comparing different style roses, to illustrate tbis principal in my own hand so to speak.
So to that end, I am offering this (left hand) single point rose at a discount, and a similar promo off of any other rose-related requests.
