Last year after putting Geronino down I took his halter inside.

It's been inside ever since.

I had used it for the other horses while he was still in his body. But I had it specially made for him. When I sent in his measurements the message I got back was "WOW. You have a big horse." And i said, "A mustang with a big head." 😂

Today. Seeing it sitting inside... it felt like time to bring it back out and start using it again.

Threads

There are threads in our lives that are always there.

Maybe not active.

Maybe we've let go of them for awhile.

Let go for days.

Weeks.

Months.

Years.

But somewhere, sometime, something along the way...

Happens.

And we pick it up again.

It was never lost.

We simply let it go for awhile.

Finding harmony in our lives as other things shaped us.

Honed us.

Allowed us.

Molded us.

And then?

That point where we pick it up again?

It's like we never let go.

And it's even more beautiful.

More natural.

More a part of us.

Because we have allowed other parts of us, of our lives to grow and develop.

And this?

This is me picking up a thread.

This girl has been showing up for and with me more and more and more lately.

She steps into my big energy with her big energy.

(And there has been LOTS of big energy lately around here.)

Sometimes she is showing up for me, and sometimes she is showing up for herself.

Eve is.... everything a red headed mare is. (A Thoroughbred mare at that.)

She is smart.

Strong.

Expressive.

So sweet.

Sensitive in every way.

She knows what she likes.

She is also still a little unsure about vulnerability and intimacy.

She has come a long way, but she still sometimes struggles with that.

Or maybe that is me.

See, when she shows up and I see and feel her resisting receiving love and affection I stop and reflect on where I still do that.

Where I still, even after years of work, don't fully allow myself to receive from different sources.

And also don't allow myself to show that part of myself to different people.

Are there sometimes good reasons why?

Sure.

Is it how I want to show up?

No.

So.

Here I sit and ponder and wonder.... how much of it is her... and how much of it is me...

And isn't that always the question in every relationship?

I never in a million years would have imagined I'd be writing this post so soon. It should have been in 10, 15, maybe even 20 years.

Geronimo was.... my soul mirror. The first horse I had as an adult. The horse who taught be that its always okay to start over. To begin again.

Right now words cant even begin to describe all that he was and did. The lives he touched. The lessons he taught. What he meant to me.

But yesterday, his body couldn't keep fighting. His spirit wanted to stay, but he was in a body that gave up. I went to get an apple and turn on the water and as I went to go out the gate all of my energy left mg body and it was all I could do to sink to the ground instead of falling. And I knew.

I had to make a decision that I didn't imagine I would have to make. Im so grateful for those around me who helped figure out logistics, especially my dad.

I still cant believe hes gone.

Run wild. Find Shadow, Snip, G***k, and all the others ones who went before. I miss you so much my wild child.

The poem that little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice could have been written about this girl.

With LOTS of spice.

But also oh so much sugar.

Today I taught my clients how to do the bladder meridian release on the horses.

My goal is ALWAYS horses helping humans and humans helping horses.

The horse is not a tool to be used.

Today's lessons and insights included:

Boundaries.

Learning how to be vulnerable.

Letting our guard down.

Being safe with physical touch.

Belle had some great releases and allowed herself to feel safe with a couple of the girls.

Eve released some and relaxed.

Geronimo asked for his turn and helped a woman process some deep things.

Watching this mare evolve, being a part of her evolution has been... such a blessing.

An adventure.

A long list of lessons.

I have changed her name several times.

Mostly because she keeps changing.

From the mare who was shutdown and wildly disassociated.

To the mare who was angry and hurting.

To the mare who was healing.

To the mare today who still is a work in progress but is so loving.

I call her Mama most of the time, but her name for the last several months has been Eve.

Eve for evolution.

May we all continue our own evolution.

These two were the ones that showed up for a session today with my clients from the recovery center.

They don't often show up together for other people, so it was fun to see what transpired.

The exercise today was about teamwork, communication, coordination, etc.

The mission? Create three different obstacles that represented the first 3 steps and then get the horse through them with touching or bribing them.

They had gotten Bandit through the 2nd step.

One client, we will call her D, was talking.

She is one who shares beautiful things straight from her heart. When she shares her writings everyone stops and listens.

As she was talking Bandit looked at her straight on and started walking right to her. She stopped and said in a halting voice, "you're going to make me cry."

And then she started crying.

She repeated, "you're going to make me cry."

I asked her why, and she replied, "I don't know."

I told her, "I think you do."

We stood there for a couple of minutes witnessing this moment. None of the rest of us were quite sure what it was, but I just basked in the beauty that is horses and what they can do.

She shared how amazing that was, and how she'd heard me talk about that feeling, and she believed me, but experiencing it herself was something else.

I asked her if she wanted to share what it was that she had felt and what made her cry.

She explained that she tries to always speak from the heart, but often doesn't know if anyone else is feeling it in their heart, if anyone is truly getting what she is saying.

"And when he just started walking straight at me when I was talking, it was like I had somehow reached out and was pulling him in. I didn't make him come to me, but it was like he was drawn to me. And to just feel that someone else was really FEELING my heart and what I was sharing..."

And that is exactly what horses do. And what we should be doing and being in life.

Just sharing straight from our heart and souls.

Not to try and achieve anything.

Not to try and convince anyone of anything.

But just because we feel we need to.

That is what the world needs.

And what we need and want will automatically be drawn to us.

As with people, working with a horse with trauma is a process.

You don't just magically heal trauma in one day.

You can make progress, absolutely.

But the true healing and shifting and new way of being....

It takes time.

Time to feel comfortable and safe around other people.

In your body.

Allowing touch.

Allowing connection.

There are moments where, with both horses and humans, it is frustrating and disheartening.

But then there are moments where you see a mare soften and relax a little, eyes closing, head lowering, releasing a sigh...

And you keep on keeping on.
