Does your child climb everything in sight? You’re not alone!

The couch, the playground, or the kitchen chairs, some children seem determined to turn every space in your house into an obstacle course.

While it can be exhausting, climbing is helping your child build strength, balance, coordination, body awareness, and problem solving skills. These experiences help develop their foundation for current and future activities, like participating in sports or keeping up with their peers.

Safety is always important, but it’s helpful to remember that movement is one of the best ways our children can learn about their bodies and the world around them! If you have concerns about your child’s motor skills, our team of physical therapists is here to help!

Looking for an easy activity that builds more than play skills? Let’s make a bug-themed sensory bin!

As your child explores the sensory bin, they’re building:
🐞 Fine motor skills
🪲 Sensory exploration
🐛 Pretend play
🐜 Vocabulary and early language skills

Try asking questions like:
🦋 Which bug is hiding under the grass?
🕷️ What bugs do you see?
🐝 How many bugs are in the net?

The best part? Your child is learning naturally through play!

SAVE this idea for a 🌧️ day or when your little one needs a fun, screen free activity!

Toddlers are learning all day long, even when it doesn’t look like it.

Helping make dinner, putting away toys, or sitting at the dinner table may seem like ordinary moments, but they’re filled with opportunities to build language, develop problem solving skills, and support independence.

The next time your toddler wants to “help,” remember they’re doing more than just helping! They’re learning!

Regulation is how your child’s body and brain work together to manage their emotions, energy, and behavior so they can feel safe, connected, and ready to engage.

Teaching regulation in early childhood is not about expecting your child to “calm down” on command. It develops through co-regulation, predictable routines, and everyday play with you!

If your child struggles with transitions, big emotions, attention, or sensory needs, early intervention services can help support regulation through play-based strategies and family-centered care. Let’s connect today!

Did you know handwriting skills start long before your child picks up a pencil?

Strong handwriting skills are built on a foundation of core strength, fine motor control, your child’s ability to use their eyes and hands together, and how they use both sides of their body together. If your child struggles with handwriting, is avoiding writing tasks, or is getting frustrated easily, our OT team is here to help support the foundational skills needed to make writing feel easier and more successful!

Some days, listening feels like a big skill for little ears. When listening is hard, try starting with small changes:
✔️Get close to your child before giving directions
✔️ Use short, clear language
✔️ Pair words with gestures or visuals
✔️ Pause and give extra time for processing

These simple shifts can help support your child in building stronger attention and understanding over time!

Which of these feels most doable to try this week?

Meet Jina! 👋🏻

We’re highlighting Jina today for the creativity and intention she brought to the Festival of Tales community event!

Jina is an amazing SLP who designed a series of sensory bin recipes that you can use at home to recreate meaningful, play-based learning! Each bin was thoughtfully created to support language development, sensory exploration, and engagement through hands-on play!

Thank you Jina for combining your clinical expertise with practical, family-friendly ideas that parents can use in everyday routines!

Your child’s hand dominance develops gradually over time as they explore, practice, and build coordination through play and everyday activities.

It’s common for young children to switch hands while skills are still emerging, especially during coloring, cutting, and self-feeding. Rather than focusing on their use of their right or left hand, what matters most is giving them opportunities for practice with both sides.
