Attention isn’t just one skill. Throughout their day, your child uses different types of attention depending on what they’re doing.

✔️ Sustained attention helps them stay focused on an activity over time.
✔️ Selective attention helps them focus on what’s important.
✔️ Divided attention comes into play when they need to manage more than one piece of information at a time.

Board games naturally give your child opportunities to practice these skills. They also support skills like following directions, taking turns, and waiting.

What board game would you add to this list?

Once kids start jumping, you’ll see that skill show up everywhere! From navigating the playground and jumping over obstacles to learning how to hop, skip, and jump rope.

Swipe through to see some of the building blocks that can help set the stage for those first two-footed jumps!

If your child wants to jump, but their feet aren’t yet leaving the floor, seem hesitant to jump, or you’re curious about their gross motor development, our pediatric PTs can help! Reach out to learn more about how we can support your child!

Strong writers start with strong hands!

Before your child can comfortably control a pencil, they need opportunities to build hand strength, coordination, and fingertip control.

Simple activities like beading, lacing, stickers, Play-Doh, tongs, tweezers, and vertical writing help develop the fine motor skills that support a strong pencil grasp!

Your child’s fine motor development happens in the little everyday moments. Which of these activities would your child love most?

Early intervention isn’t about what your child can’t do. It’s about supporting all that they’re learning to do.

Early support can help children build skills that impact so many parts of everyday life, from communicating and connecting with others to moving, playing, exploring, and becoming more independent.

You don’t have to wait until you have all the answers to ask questions. Sometimes, a conversation is the best place to start. We’re here to help!

Learning doesn’t always look like sitting at a desk. For some children, focus might look like standing, shifting positions, using a wiggle seat, moving their body, or learning alongside a friend.

Movement isn’t necessarily a distraction from learning. Sometimes, it’s part of what helps your child feel regulated, stay engaged, and be able to access what’s being taught.

When we make room for different learning needs and different ways of participating, we can spend less time asking, “Are they sitting still?” and more time asking, “Are they learning?”

Handwriting isn’t just about holding a pencil. It’s about developing the strength, coordination, and control that make writing feel easier and more natural.

We love using games like Noodle Knockout to help children build the foundation they need for handwriting in a fun and engaging way! When learning feels like play, children are often more motivated and develop new skills.

Follow along for more screen-free, therapist-approved activities that help your child build real-life skills through play!
