Mental health matters every day. Small acts of self-care — like staying connected, exercising, practicing mindfulness, and getting enough rest — can make a big difference in your well-being.

Remember, it’s okay to ask for help. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

This is a hard post to write, but it’s important.

Right now, across multiple healthcare practices, including ours, there are serious issues with TriWest, the company that manages certain veteran and military healthcare plans.

We are continuing to care for veterans- these are people we have chosen to serve and support. Many of our clients are seen weekly for mental health support. We continue to provide care knowing that services we’ve already provided may not be paid for months… or at all.

And we’re not the only ones.

Providers across the nation are experiencing the same thing.
These are not just billing delays. These are real people:
- Veterans working through trauma
- Individuals showing up every week trying to get better
- Families relying on consistent care

We will always do everything we can to show up for our patients. But over time, issues like this create strain on the ability of practices to continue providing that level of care consistently. Just like others, we need the funds to keep our doors open. We are being placed in a position where we have to choose between continuing to provide care for a population that deeply deserves it, or maintaining the financial stability needed to keep our doors open.

This is how access to care starts to break down: quietly, behind the scenes.

We have taken steps to escalate this through Congressional offices, but community awareness and advocacy matter.

If you or your family have been impacted, or if you simply want to support veteran access to care, you can help by contacting your representatives and asking for oversight into TriWest and VA Community Care payment issues.

Most offices have a simple contact form and it only takes a few minutes.

You don’t have to know all the details. Even a message like:
ā€œI’m concerned about access to care for veterans in Arizona due to TriWest payment issues. Please look into this.ā€
…makes a difference.

We don’t share this lightly. We share it because our veterans deserve better, and the system supporting their care needs to function the way it was intended to.

Our veterans showed up for all of us. Making sure they have access to care shouldn’t be this hard.

Welcome to the Team, Brad DeVar, LAC!

We’re excited to welcome Brad DeVar to Wild Ember Psychiatry & Therapy. Brad is a Licensed Associate Counselor and Certified School Psychologist who brings a unique blend of clinical experience, educational expertise, and real-world perspective to our team.

Brad offers virtual therapy for both youth and adults, creating a supportive, straightforward space for individuals navigating stress, trauma, and life transitions. With a background as a former law enforcement officer, he brings a deep understanding of high-stress environments and works especially well with first responders, veterans, and those seeking practical, results-focused care.

In addition to therapy, Brad provides independent educational evaluations, which are comprehensive assessments that help identify a student’s cognitive, academic, and emotional needs. These evaluations support families in better understanding how their child learns and what resources or accommodations may be helpful for success in school.

Brad’s approach is direct, compassionate, and grounded in helping clients build resilience, gain clarity, and move forward with confidence. We’re thrilled to have him as part of the Wild Ember team!
