September is here, and in Louisiana that means we're smack in the middle of peak hurricane season — not past it.
This is National Preparedness Month, so here's a quick pharmacy-specific checklist:
🌀 Know your refill dates — if a storm is tracking toward us, don't wait until the day before to fill a prescription
🌀 Ask about an early refill — many insurances allow it once a storm watch or warning is issued for our area
🌀 Keep a printed list of your medications, doses, and prescriber info somewhere you can grab it fast
🌀 If you use insulin or anything that needs refrigeration, have a small cooler and ice packs ready in case the power goes out
🌀 Remember: pharmacies sometimes have to close for a storm too — plan a few extra days of cushion, not just enough for the day

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day — a day to remember the people we've lost, and to talk honestly about medication safety without judgment.

A few things we want every one of our neighbors to know:
💜 We carry naloxone (Narcan) — it can reverse an opioid overdose, and having it at home is a smart precaution, not an admission of anything
💜 You can ask us about it privately, any time, no questions asked
💜 We can walk you through how to safely dispose of old or unused prescriptions — getting them out of the house is one of the simplest ways to prevent harm
💜 If you or someone you love is struggling, reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not failure

If your child takes medication for ADHD and had a break from it over the summer (a lot of families do this with their doctor's guidance), late August is a good time to have the conversation about restarting before school gets going.

A few things worth checking:
✅ Confirm the dose is still right — kids grow, and dosing sometimes needs adjusting after a summer off
✅ Restart a few days before school starts, not the morning of, so you can see how they respond
✅ Talk to the teacher and school nurse early about the plan, especially if timing during the school day matters
✅ Ask your prescriber about a 90-day supply so you're not making a pharmacy run mid-semester

Ragweed season is creeping in, and this is the time of year we get a lot of "is this a cold or allergies?" questions. Here's a quick way to tell:

🤧 Allergies: itchy eyes/nose/throat, clear runny nose, sneezing fits, symptoms that last for weeks and are worse outdoors
🤒 A cold: sore throat, body aches, low fever, thicker mucus, and it usually clears up in 7–10 days

If it's allergies, your options: a non-drowsy antihistamine (Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra), a nasal steroid spray (Flonase, Nasacort) for more stubborn congestion, or both together for bigger flares.

Not sure which one fits your symptoms — or which is safe with your other medications? Ask us before you guess at the aisle.
