The science. The movement. The joy of food. 🌿

As a University Professor, Registered Dietitian, and runner, I believe nutrition is about so much more than what we eat.

It is also about understanding the research, fueling our bodies, staying active, and consciously enjoying food .

Whether I’m discussing nutrition and communication research in the classroom, educating a patient, training for my next half-marathon, or exploring a restaurant menu, my philosophy remains the same: Healthy living should be evidence-based, balanced, sustainable, and enjoyable.

🧡💚 What does healthy living mean to you?

🥝 Small fruit, BIG nutritional benefits!

As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, University Professor & Researcher, I love sharing simple, evidence-based ways to nourish your body!

Kiwis are packed with vitamin C, fiber, antioxidants, and potassium, all nutrients that support immune function, digestive health, and overall wellness. 💚

Let’s talk about FIBER! Fiber plays an essential role in gut health by supporting beneficial gut bacteria, promoting regular GI movement, and helping maintain a healthy digestive system.

The current recommendations for fiber are 25 g a day for women, 38 g a day for men. However, the average American only gets about 15 g a day!

🌿 What does the research say? A 2023 randomized controlled trial found that eating two green kiwifruits daily improved constipation and abdominal comfort.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, small additions to your daily diet can make a meaningful difference!

Movement with meaning! 💗

A 4-mile morning run, a beautiful yoga class Bloomingdale's with Mary Ann Morgan-Fried | Yoga & Wellness in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a protein smoothie from ᖇᗩᗯ ᒍᑌᑕE to refuel! 🌿

As a registered dietitian, professor, and runner, I believe wellness goes beyond exercise and nutrition. It’s about movement, mindfulness, community, and making time for what matters.

A Sunday morning filled with movement, purpose, connection, and nourishment. 💕

Registered Dietitian. University Professor. Runner. 🌿

Three roles, one philosophy: Nourish your body, move with purpose, and make healthy living sustainable.

Between teaching university students, counseling nutrition patients, and training for my next half marathon, I practice many of the same principles I teach.

🥑 I believe in a food-first approach.
💪 I prioritize protein and muscle health.
🍠 I embrace carbohydrates as essential fuel.
🥗 I focus on nutrient-dense foods and long-term health.
❤️ I believe nutrition should be individualized, not restrictive.

Perhaps most importantly, I believe in consistency over perfection.

Nutrition is not one-size-fits-all. What works for me may not work for everyone, and that’s exactly why individualized, evidence-based guidance matters.

What’s one healthy habit you prioritize in your everyday life?

What I Eat in a Busy, Active Life 🌿

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Professor. Health Researcher. Runner. A very full schedule. fuel is needed!

Healthy eating, for me, isn’t about perfection or complicated meals. It’s about choosing foods I genuinely l❤️ve and enjoy that nourish me and give me the energy I need for teaching, seeing patients, training, and everything else life brings.

Sometimes it’s a beautifully balanced meal. Sometimes it’s blueberries and a cheese stick between classes. Both count.

Conscious eating:
I focus on protein, fiber, healthy fats, plenty of plants, and foods that leave me feeling satisfied and energized.
Not fad diets, but foods that fit my lifestyle.

Nourish. Move. Live well. 🌿

Hi, I’m Dr. Rhonda Trust 👋

Professor. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Runner. A big believer that how we communicate about health matters just as much as the information itself.

I’ve spent years as a college professor studying and teaching communication. Today, I teach in the University of Miami School of Communication, where I’ve been able to bring two of my greatest passions together, including creating and teaching Nutrition & Communication, a course exploring the powerful intersection of nutrition, communication, and behavior change.

More recently, I went back to school to pursue another passion: Nutrition.

Becoming an RDN meant returning to the sciences, earning my M.S. in Nutrition & Dietetics, completing extensive supervised clinical training, and passing the national registration exam. It was challenging, and incredibly rewarding.

Today, I get to bring my two worlds together: Nutrition + communication + behavior change. I teach, conduct research, engage in community service, work with patients, and share evidence-based nutrition in a way that I hope feels practical and doable in real life.

Then there’s running. It’s become an important part of my own health journey, and I’m currently training for my next half marathon, always setting new goals for myself.✨

This page is where all of those pieces come together: Food, nutrition science, communication, teaching, running, and real life.

If you’re new here, welcome. 🌿 I’m glad you’re here.

Such an incredible opportunity for my UMiami School of Communication speech students to learn from Coach Mike Rumph! 🧡💚🏈

A Miami Hurricane, National Champion, first-round NFL Draft pick, and former NFL player with the 49ers, Washington, and Rams, Mike Rumph shared his story, and some very powerful lessons along the way.

His message: Believe in yourself. Stay positive. Visualize your goals. Be determined and never give up on your dreams!

He also gave my students valuable public speaking tips and reminded them just how powerful our words, and our mindset, can be.

Thank you, Coach Rumph, for inspiring our students and sharing your journey! 🙌🏼

When nutrition becomes medical treatment, who has the training to manage it?

Many people use the terms Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian interchangeably, but they aren’t the same.

To become a Registered Dietitian today, individuals must earn a master’s degree, complete 1,000+ hours of supervised practice, pass a national credentialing exam, and meet state licensure requirements.

This specialized training prepares RDs to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy and manage complex nutrition support, including tube feedings (enteral nutrition) and IV nutrition (TPN) for patients who cannot meet their nutritional needs through food alone.

Nutrition can be much more than healthy eating, it can be a critical part of medical care. When nutrition becomes part of treatment, specialized training matters.
