πŸš‘ This week, we're honoring the people who show up when it matters most.

For 52 years, National EMS Week has been a reminder of what it takes to answer the call, and this year is no different. Across all our locations, our EMTs, paramedics, and emergency services personnel are out there every single day taking care of our community.

Swipe to meet some of the faces behind the response. πŸ’™

For years, Javier Gutierrez assumed the pain would pass. It always had. Until one day, it didn't.

After repeated diverticulitis flare-ups left him afraid to eat and landing in the hospital every few weeks, Javier turned to Eddie Gomez, MD, a general surgeon at Jackson Health System. Dr. Gomez performed a minimally invasive procedure at Jackson West Medical Center to remove the diseased portion of his colon.

Within days, Javier was home, eating without fear, and feeling like himself again.

"A month and a half of not feeling normal turns you into a person you don't want to be," Javier said. "Now when people ask how I'm doing, I tell them, 'I'm alive.'"

Javier's story is a reminder that persistent symptoms shouldn't be brushed off. Read more at https://jacksonhealth.org/blog/when-a-stomach-issue-wouldnt-go-away-a-patients-wake-up-call-about-diverticulitis/

At today's Trauma Survivor Day celebration, patients returned to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial and Jackson South to reconnect with the doctors, nurses, and care teams who walked with them through their hardest days. Their stories of healing, gratitude, and hope reminded everyone in the room why this work matters.

We are honored to celebrate every survivor, their families, and the teams who help make recovery possible every single day.
