Over the winter, some of our residents started "word mining." This is when you use the letters of a word and see how many other words you can make from the letters. The first time they did it, they got to 32. Someone suggested they keep trying until they got to 50. So they did. The next time they played, they got to 56. So someone suggested they keep trying until they got to 70. And they did! The next two times they played, they "mined" over 100 words! Does it end there? Of course not! A resident read a little article in the Reader's Digest about a senior living facility that word mined 223 words from the made-up word "orbisculate," whose made-up definition is something about poking a spoon into a grapefruit and having it sq**rt one directly in the eye. It was game on! It took several days, but Oaks residents mined 249 words!
