A newly published study is generating excitement in the autism research community.
Researchers from the Institute for Basic Science reported that an experimental antisense therapy restored NMDA receptor function and improved autism-related behaviors in laboratory mouse models and human brain organoids.
The therapy targets a glycine transporter called SLC6A20, which appears to influence important pathways involved in brain communication.
Before families get too excited, it is important to understand what this study actually means:
✔️ The research was performed in mice and laboratory-grown human brain organoids.
✔️ It has NOT been tested as a treatment for children with autism.
✔️ It is NOT currently available as a clinical therapy.
✔️ Additional research and human clinical trials will be necessary before determining whether this approach is safe and effective.
Even so, studies like this help scientists better understand the biology of autism and may eventually lead to more personalized interventions in the future.
At Developing Brains, we remain committed to sharing research responsibly, helping families distinguish between promising science and proven clinical treatments.
💚 Science moves forward one discovery at a time.

Food selectivity often has a sensory root that goes beyond being a “picky eater.”

With NeuroInput, we help your child’s brain organize these stimuli at their own pace, transforming mealtimes from a moment of stress into a safe opportunity to explore new textures and flavors with curiosity and confidence.

As parents, we’re always looking for answers. 💚
Why is my child struggling with sleep? Why do certain foods seem to affect behavior? Why are there days when regulation feels so much harder?
A new study suggests that a simple urine test may help identify children at risk for autism by analyzing metabolites linked to the gut-brain connection. 🧠🦠
While these findings are exciting, it’s important to remember that this is not a diagnostic test and larger studies are still needed.
What this research does reinforce is something we have been learning more about every year:
The brain and the body are deeply connected.
Gut health, nutrition, sleep, inflammation, sensory processing, and emotional regulation can all influence how a child feels, learns, and interacts with the world.
At Developing Brains, we believe every child deserves a comprehensive evaluation that looks beyond symptoms and helps us understand the whole child.
Because early understanding leads to earlier support. And earlier support can change a child's future. 💚
