Though Gone Too Soon, Her Light Remains.

Jamie Lyn Hoover was a vibrant young woman whose light touched everyone around her. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, on June 1, 2002, she lived with energy, compassion, and joy. Known for making others feel seen and understood, she brought laughter, love, and constant support to her family and friends. Her warmth and genuine spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Jamie is lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Though her life was tragically cut short on August 8, 2025, at age 23, her legacy lives on through the lives she touched.

Through her selfless decision to become an organ, eye, and tissue donor, Jamie saved the lives of five people and restored sight to two others. Her gift stands as a powerful testament to the kindness, generosity, and love she shared throughout her life.

Every single day, Hilary is reminded of the extraordinary gift she has received through her cornea transplants. Because of her donors and their families, she has been able to continue seeing the most meaningful moments of her life, including her sons walking across the graduation stage, beginning their college journeys, and growing into the young men they are today. These memories, which she may have otherwise missed, are treasures she carries with deep gratitude.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Past President A. Geoffrey Wade, PID, a dedicated Lion, visionary leader, and steadfast supporter of Beauty of Sight.

Geoff first joined the Eye Bank Board of Directors in 2012 and went on to serve as Treasurer beginning in 2014. A financial manager by profession, he used his expertise to thoughtfully guide the organization’s financial strategy—helping to grow our investment accounts and ensure the long-term sustainability of our mission.

He later served as President of the Eye Bank during the 2021–2022 Lionistic year and as President of the Beauty of Sight Foundation from 2022 to 2025, leading with strength, clarity, and unwavering commitment. Under his leadership, Beauty of Sight continued to advance innovation and expand services, while launching a capital campaign to raise critical funds and further enhance our ability to serve patients and the ophthalmic community.

Geoff’s leadership, integrity, and passion for service will not be forgotten. His legacy lives on through the lives we continue to touch and the future he helped shape.

We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Nancy, and to his family, friends, and fellow Lions during this difficult time.

Lions Clubs International Foundation Awards $228,641 Vision Grant to Expand and Equip the Beauty of Sight Eye Bank.

Miami, FL,
March 10, 2026 — Patients across Florida will soon have greater access to sight-restoring care thanks to a $228,641 Vision Grant awarded by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to Lions District 35-N. The grant will support the upgrade and equipping of Beauty of Sight’s eye bank, expanding the organization’s laboratory capabilities and increasing its ability to serve more patients throughout the state.

The global surge in myopia (nearsightedness) is often blamed on screens, but new research suggests a more physiological culprit: low retinal illumination. The study proposes that when we perform sustained “near work” indoors, like reading a book or scrolling on a phone, our pupils constrict to sharpen the image (accommodation).

In dim indoor lighting, this constriction, combined with low ambient light, starves the retina of the robust activity it needs to stay healthy. This “light starvation” may be the unifying mechanism that explains why outdoor time prevents myopia and why certain treatments, like atropine drops (which dilate the pupil), actually work.
