both columns are choices. but only one of them is available to a body that feels safe. ✨
that’s the part that took me years to understand. when your nervous system is in survival, you don’t actually get to choose the bottom line, you take the top one, over and over, and call it discipline.
so you eat less and call it discipline. you push through and call it strength. you postpone rest until everything’s finished, which it never is.
and underneath all of it, your body is registering the same message: there isn’t enough, and we’re not safe.
nourishment is one of the most direct ways to change that message. an underfed body reads scarcity as danger and stays in survival, no amount of regulating fixes what feeding would. eating enough isn’t separate from the healing. some days it is the healing.
and once your body isn’t holding its breath, something quiet happens: the bottom column becomes reachable. not because you got more disciplined. because you finally had a choice. 🤍
