Slow Down the Routine.

Children learn by doing—not by being rushed.

The next time you're heading out the door, allow a few extra minutes for your child to help put on their shoes, carry their water bottle, or zip their jacket.

It might take a little longer today, but those small opportunities build confidence, independence, and lifelong skills.

Turn Clean-Up into Play.

Does your toddler resist cleaning up?

Instead of saying...

❌ "Pick up your toys."

Try making it a game:

🧸 "Can you find all the blue toys?"

🦕 "Can the dinosaurs race back to their basket?"

🎵 Sing a clean-up song while you work together.

Play transforms clean-up from a chore into an opportunity to build listening skills, following directions, problem-solving, and independence.

Offer Two Choices.

Toddlers are learning independence—and giving them simple choices helps build confidence while reducing power struggles.

Instead of asking:

❌ "What do you want to wear?"

Try:

✨ "Would you like the blue shirt or the green shirt?"

Or:

✨ "Do you want to hop like a bunny or walk to the car?"

Offering two appropriate choices helps children practice decision-making while still giving caregivers the structure they need.

It's natural to want to jump in, but giving your little one a few extra seconds to figure something out helps build confidence, problem-solving, and persistence.

Whether they're reaching for a toy, climbing over a pillow, or trying to stand, those little challenges help them learn.

💛 Sometimes the best support is giving them the opportunity to try.
