Just starting with quail? One thing you can do to make things easier is to get feather-sexable quail. Use feather patterns on the chest to identify males and females at just 3 weeks. This lets you separate extra males before they reach maturity to keep things more peaceful in your covey! See link in comments for hatching eggs.
