🌀 STORM PREPAREDNESS UPDATE

As Hurricane Isaias approaches the northern Gulf Coast, we encourage our community to take time today to prepare your home, family and pets.
The National Hurricane Center’s 4 a.m. CDT advisory reported sustained winds of 80 mph, with further strengthening expected. Landfall is forecast late Friday, October 9, or early Saturday, October 10. (nhc.noaa.gov, weather.gov)
⚠️ Potential impacts for the Wiregrass include damaging winds, power outages, heavy rain, flooding and possible tornadoes. NWS Tallahassee forecasts 3–7 inches of rain across the regional Flood Watch area, with isolated amounts near 10 inches. Local impacts will depend on the storm’s track. (weather.gov)
Take these steps now:
✅ Stock your essentials: Have at least a week’s supply of drinking water, nonperishable food and necessary medications. Remember pet food and supplies.
✅ Prepare for outages: Charge phones and power banks. Check flashlights, batteries and your weather radio.
✅ Secure your property: Bring in loose outdoor items, secure furniture and fuel your vehicle.
✅ Know your safe place: Choose an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Keep emergency alerts enabled overnight.
✅ Check on others: Help older relatives, neighbors and anyone who needs assistance. Make a backup plan for electrically powered medical equipment.
✅ Use generators safely: Operate outdoors only, at least 20 feet from doors, windows and vents—never inside a home or garage.
✅ Avoid floodwater and downed power lines: Never drive through flooded roads. Follow instructions from local emergency officials. (weather.gov, weather.gov, weather.gov)
