Vagus Night: A Nervous System Reset

Vagus Night is a monthly experience designed to support the nervous system through chanting, breathwork, gentle yoga, and sound. Each part of the evening is intended to help the body slow down, soften, and shift out of survival mode so you can reconnect with yourself in a more grounded, regulated way.

This is for the ones who feel overstimulated, worn down, emotionally heavy, mentally restless, or like their system has forgotten how to truly exhale.

Throughout the evening, we will work with simple practices that support vagal tone and invite the body into a more restorative state. Chanting helps create vibration and resonance through the body. This past month, Cody and I went to Phoenix for our very first Kirtan with Krishna Das and to be completely honest, it’s difficult to find the right words to describe that night.

Kirtan isn’t a concert in the traditional sense, it’s a practice of devotional call-and-response chanting. You simply show up. You chant. You be present and you let the sound carry you.

There is definitely something profoundly powerful about sitting in a room full of strangers and slowly realizing the barrier between you and them is dissolving.

At first, your mind notices everything: your own voice, your racing thoughts, the crowd around you, and the nagging worry of whether you’re singing too loud or not loud enough. But somewhere in the middle of the chanting, all of that noise starts to fade away. You stop worrying and you stop holding onto yourself. You just start to sing, sing purely from the heart. And then, something opens up.

For some, it hits like a sudden wave; what others might describe as the Holy Spirit taking hold. For others, it’s entirely quiet. A subtle softening. A single tear rolling down the cheek. A moment where something deep inside finally gets permission to drop its guard. The love that usually gets buried under stress, grief, daily responsibilities, and the relentless pace of life suddenly rises back to the surface. You finally start to feel that love that dwells deep inside you.

And yes, Cody might have cried a couple of times. Sometimes the heart understands exactly what is happening long before the mind can find the words to explain it.

For us, this was so much more than live music; it was a visceral reminder of why we do what we do. It reminded us that we don’t always have to force our hearts back open. Sometimes, we just need to clear enough space for love to move freely again.
