Disability Network of Mid-Michigan

Disability Network of Mid-Michigan We promote and encourage independence for all people with disabilities. Creating access and inclusion

We believe in what is known as the Independent Living Philosophy. The Independent Living philosophy postulates that people with disabilities are the best experts on their needs, and therefore they must take the initiative, individually and collectively, in designing and promoting better solutions and must organize themselves for political power. We believe that people with disabilities have the sa

me right to participation, to the same range of options, degree of freedom, control and self-determination in every day life and life projects that other citizens take for granted. Thus, we as IL activists seek the removal of infrastructure, institutional and attitudinal barriers in our communities.

Family caregivers are the backbone of our care system—and their impact is bigger than ever. A recent AARP report estimates that unpaid family caregiving in the U.S. is now valued at over $1 trillion each year. That’s millions of people helping loved ones with daily needs, often while balancing work, family, and their own health.

If you’re caring for someone - or planning ahead - you don’t have to do it alone. Through MI Options, DNMM can connect you to local resources like in-home support, transportation, and more.

Big news for financial independence in Michigan!

The MiABLE program recently expanded, meaning many more people with disabilities can now save money without risking benefits. The program nearly doubled eligibility to include people whose disability began before age 46. This impacts up to 1 million people! It’s a major step forward for independence, opportunity, and long-term security.

Need help understanding your options? DNMM can help connect you to resources. Contact us [email protected] (989) 835-4041.

Accessibility ensures everyone—regardless of ability—can access information, services, and support. For millions of people, including older adults and people with disabilities, barriers in digital spaces can limit independence and participation. Simple improvements like clear navigation, readable text, and captions on videos can make a meaningful difference.

At DNMM, we’re committed to helping individuals connect to resources in ways that work for them.
