Happy retirement, Chief Kevin Cunningham!

I first met Kevin in 2010 or so, and we began collaborating in 2012 regarding the possibility of serving as EMS Medical Director. In 2014, I officially stepped into that role, initially with Cedar Hill and later expanding to Midlothian.

Kevin is widely respected throughout the Metroplex and across EMS leadership circles. Over the years, he has helped shape the local, regional, and even state level EMS landscape through his vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to advancing prehospital care. He has consistently stayed at the forefront of the profession while ensuring that medics are equipped to provide professional, compassionate, and high-quality care to every patient.

It has truly been an honor and privilege to work alongside Kevin over the years. His dedication to both patients and providers has left a lasting impact on countless people and agencies.

Captain (now EMS Chief) Ted McPherson has been Kevin’s trusted copilot over last few years and will now be stepping into the role of leading the mission forward. Those are certainly big shoes to fill, but Ted is the perfect person to continue Kevin’s legacy — ensuring our medics have the training, tools, and support needed to deliver exceptional prehospital care.

Congratulations, Kevin, on an incredible career and well-earned retirement. Your impact on EMS will be felt for years to come. It has truly been a pleasure and a privilege to work with you. Best wishes for the new adventures that lie ahead.
