This evening, Milan & Dummer EMS was dispatched for reports of shots fired. Our duty crew along with (3) off duty Advanced Life Support members responded to the scene to stabilize one patient. Due to the nature of the patients injuries, DHART was requested to respond.

That patient was ultimately transported to a local hospital, and then airlifted by DHART to a regional trauma center.

We wish to thank our partners at Milan Fire Department who responded to assist along with officers from Berlin NH Police Department who assisted in stabilizing the patient and maintaining safety of the scene so our providers could work.

While this is EMS week, providing emergency medical care is a team effort between all of the emergency services, and we are grateful for the partnership and assistance we received tonight.

Part of providing a robust emergency medical system is providing high quality training.

Our agency recently sent three individuals to the State Fire academy to become instructors.

Having in-house instructors along with our partnership with Becker Training Associates will allow our agency to provide in-house EMS training courses from the emergency medical responder all the way up to Advanced EMT level.

Our first such class as part of this pilot program kicked off Wednesday last week and continued last night.

It is our goal to train 7 to 12 new EMS providers per class and offer a progressive training program that allows an unlicensed individual to progress to the advanced EMT level within a period of just a few years.

Today the members of the Milan & Dummer Ambulance stand in solidarity with our colleagues of Searsmont, ME Fire Rescue who dealt with the unthinkable yesterday when their members were rocked by an explosion while operating at a lumber mill fire. One member was killed and a number more were injured in the blast.

Public safety can be a dangerous profession, and one that these brave individuals ran towards yesterday to protect their community.

Milan & Dummer EMS is off to a busy start this year with 19 calls in the last two weeks alone.

Some interesting stats have emerged over the last 2 weeks:

2+ calls in a day - 5
3+ calls in a day - 1
(2) Ambulance 911 Response - 1

This brings our annual total to 103 calls. At the current pace we expect to surpass 350 runs by the end of this year. Almost 100 more calls than last year.

If you want to help serve and respond to emergencies in your community, please consider reaching out to us regarding our fully funded Emergency Medical Responder class. This program is designed for individuals with no prior emergency medicine experience. Classes are taught locally by our instructors and grant a national EMS license once testing is complete.

APRIL FOOLS

With our 911 coverage area being so vast, Milan & Dummer EMS is deploying our autonomous drone program.

First response drones will enable us to get critical care to patients who need it quickly.

Drones will be able to deliver hemorrhage control supplies such as tourniquets, and automatic external defibrillators ahead of a responding ambulance.
