My name is Olivia Wyse, and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new Youth and Family Director here at Carls!

I have a bachelor’s degree in sports management and a masters degree in sports administration from Wayne State University. Sports and recreation have always been a big part of my life, and I’ve always loved working with youth, families , and the community.

A little interesting fact about me is that I am a 3rd degree black belt in ATA Martial arts. Outside of work, I enjoy running, motorsports, reading, and spending time with my friends and family. I’m so excited to be a part of the YMCA and look forward to getting to know our staff, members, and families while creating fun programs and experiences for everyone.

Today was the last day of camp at the Carls Family Y, and while it was a truly amazing day with the perfect weather and vibes, it also marks my (Andy Mac, for anyone who may not know) last day as the Camp Director.

I apologize in advance for the very Andy centric post, but I wanted to say thank you to all the families who’ve sent their kids to my camp over the years, all the staff who worked to make Carls Camp the best place on earth, all the members who’ve put up with me and my antics, and of course all the campers who made this the amazing place it was over the past five years.

Being the camp director here at Carls was a dream come true. I have loved every minute of every day here and it will always have a place in my heart, as will Childwatch, and Minecraft, and the Parents Evening Outs and everything else.

While there are plenty of pictures from the last day here, a lot of these photos are just highlights from the past 5 years that I wanted one last chance to share. I’ve made so many memories here this barely scratches the surface, but hopefully it paints a small picture.

One last time, thank you to everyone who helped me create the camp I dreamed of running when I was just a sixteen year old counselor in New York. Carls will always be my favorite place in the world and a second home to me, and I can’t wait to see how its Camp grows beyond me.

Meet August’s Cool Dad Mike Hollings. Mike, a transplant from the UK, is an engineer of sorts and works in battery sales. He is a Ta**us (one of our favorite signs) and he says that his favorite food is steak. He and his spouse, Dr. Kelin Prokurat, have two adorable daughters that love coming to the Y. For Mike, racing sailboats and playing rugby are a bit of a thing of the past. These days he is happy to float in a lake in the warm months and ski with his girls in the winter. He says that they first came to the Y because it was convenient for them and he wanted his kids to learn to swim, but they ended up finding more than they anticipated at Carls.

“ What keeps us there is the community, the friendship, the unwavering support, the smiles, Summer Camp, Parents [Evening] Out and an environment where the whole family feels safe, welcomed and known.”

To Mike, being a dad and being an active participant in his community are very much enmeshed. Both come with responsibility, a lot of “to-ing and fro-ing,” and both come with much joy and reward. He seems to mean that a big part of being a dad for him is about action.

“It means supporting my partner and other dads (and Mom’s :-)) when they are struggling and when they are not. And it means watching two little girls grow and thrive in the best environment I can provide for them.” Community is important to Mike. He says he wants to see “people coming together to support one another” in an environment where everyone is welcome. Mike and his family have definitely been an invaluable part of our community and we are proud to name him as August’s Cool Dad of Carls! Carls Family YMCA The Y

Please join us in welcoming Patrick Shaw to the Carls Family YMCA Board of Directors!

Patrick and his wife recently celebrated 20 years of marriage and are proud parents of three Milford High School graduates. After moving from the Chicago suburbs eight years ago, they are proud to call Milford home.

Patrick is a Partner at Fortitude Financial Partners in downtown Milford, where he helps individuals, families, and business owners plan for their financial futures. He’s also deeply involved in the community as a Chamber Ambassador, Milford Rotary member, Huron Valley Referral Network leader, longtime youth sports coach, and supporter of local organizations.

He believes strong communities are built through strong relationships, and we couldn’t agree more. We’re excited to welcome his leadership to the Y Board!

Welcome to the Y family, Patrick! 💙
