Top 10 Herbs for the Homestead by Trevor Mann 🌿

In our decade plus as herbalists and homesteaders we've learned a thing or two about what herbs we continue to utilize over and over and what we would not want to be without! If you aim for self sufficiency in medical care for yourself, your children, and your farm animals you don't want to miss this class. We will go over our top 10(ish- it is hard to narrow it down!) herbs to be familiar with to keep your homestead vital and healthy. We will cover medicinal and other benefits of these plants as well as tips for growing, harvesting, and processing- including some of our favorite recipes! This interactive session introduces participants to plants historically found in Gullah Geechee yard spaces and coastal environments. Through guided observation, storytelling, and reflection, the class explores the cultural significance of select herbs while emphasizing preservation over replication. Attendees will be invited to engage with plants through their senses, deepen their awareness of land-based traditions, and consider the importance of protecting traditional ecological knowledge. This session centers respect, cultural stewardship, and ethical herbalism. 🌍🌻

The Home Herbal Apothecary by Joanna Mann 🍶🍵🌿

Herbal classes are amazing, but the number one takeaway most people are looking for is how they can apply herbal medicine to their life and family. 🏡 Classes often forget to include this practical application. This class will address the most common “home apothecary” issues such as headaches, colds, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, allergies, mild insomnia, cuts and scrapes, and more– think all those little things you know how to treat with OTC drug store items. We will discuss adequate herbal substitutes and strategies for combating these common complaints and go over dosages so that you leave feeling equipped to tackle these pesky complaints through the “farmacy” instead of the pharmacy.

👀 Sneak peek into our Saturday classes👀

Keynote speaker: Phyllis D Light- Finding your place on the land 🌿❤️

Phyllis D. Light, a fourth generation herbalist and healer, has studied and worked with herbs, foods, and other healing techniques for over 30 years. Her studies in Traditional Southern Folk Medicine began in the deep woods of North Alabama with lessons from her grandmother, whose herbal and healing knowledge had its roots in her Creek/Cherokee heritage.

Have you found your place on the land? It may be a local place where you support your family and friends with the power of the land, of the plants. It may be a broader place where you help your clients using the power of the land, the plants. You may have been born into an old tradition with ancestors, teachers, and relatives guiding your journey. Or, you may still be searching and accumulating knowledge from many traditions and many teachers, each guiding you along the way.

Finding your place is a way of finding your voice. It is an anchor that helps you create your life in a way that your story meets the greater story. Join Phyllis as she shares a part of her tradition, her story, her place on the land. She’ll also discuss ways to find your place and how we can all become part of the greater story.
