The KDKC is a place where children and adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes can come and just be kids for a week. In their everyday lives, they live in the minority - there are usually very few kids in their peer groups who also have diabetes. Because of this, they have to take time out of activities because of blood sugar or medication demands - at camp, everyone has these needs, so no one gets left
out. Camp operates like a normal camp while incorporating diabetes management into our schedule. This hopefully reinforces the idea that diabetes management does not have to be an overwhelming obstacle - you can go rock climbing, shoot archery and check your blood glucose without issue. Camp in itself is a very exciting place to be - to be part of a community for a week where everyone wants to have fun non-stop is a very special thing. Camp Victory as a camp site offers a lot of incredible amenities to facilitate our week - to name a few - a stage for our talent show, some great ropes course features for our cabins to tackle as teams, an amazing nature center and great wide open spaces for our activities, including sports and camp-wide games.
