Walnut Way Walnut Way Conservation Corp. (Walnut Way) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit neighborhood organization founded by residents in 2000.

The center is located at 2240 N 17th Street in a carefully renovated, formally infamous drug house. Understanding the importance of valuing place, residents restored this 1910 house, slated for demolition into an active Center where youth, families, elders, homeowners and renters participate in community development.

The 2nd Annual street festival organized by Lindsay Heights residents , who were motivated to connect our neighborhood with food, entertainment and resources.

A day where the celebration revolves around community, giving back, and prioritizing the people who make our place of residence a beautiful thing to remember!

Partner Spotlight: "Summertime Fun" Youth & Family Resource Fair
Black Men Organizing invites the community to their Summertime Community Connection Series kickoff — a free day of resources, activities, and connection for youth, families, and elders.

🗓️ Saturday, June 20, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
📍 Running Rebels Community Organization, 225 W. Capitol Drive, Milwaukee

Expect youth programs, summer camps, employment and health resources, family support services, the Intergenerational "Verzuz" Challenge, and a Half-Court Shot Challenge with prizes. Featured partners include Running Rebels, Taylor Made Foundation MKE, True Skool, Milwaukee Recreation, Camp Breeze, Camp Xhongo Peace Center, and Progressive Baptist Church.

Free and open to the public.

After June 20, keep the momentum going — join us at the 2026 Wisconsin Governor's Forum to hear candidates speak to the issues shaping our neighborhoods.

Have you seen these blue lights popping up in your neighborhood?

The “L” - represents Lindsay Heights as a powerful example of how thoughtful neighborhood design can support flood mitigation and stormwater management.
Through a collaboration with WaterMarks, the community installed landmarked blue lights that signal when our sewer system is under stress during heavy rain.

When the beacon lights up, it’s a reminder for residents to pause water use—helping prevent sewer overflows that can spill into our precious Great Lakes.

With the extreme rainfall we experienced this April, these small actions make a big difference. Next time it rains, take a moment to look outside and check for the blue light—you’ll know how to help protect our shared water systems.

During this month of Juneteenth, we’ll like to highlight family.

Family in the Lindsay Heights community is the backbone of all our connections. It’s the impetus to changing our world around us not for the sake our livelihoods , but the next generation.

When enslaved black people were liberated, they had nothing but themselves and the people who they had in their family. Without connections to our roots, we are aimless. But together our bond is stronger than ever.

In Milwaukee our youth are often victimized by stereotypes and are marginalized into one-dimensional beings.

But at Walnut Way, we don’t see them as tropes to be handled with, we see them as young people with potential and great talent, and we want to foster their path into adulthood with lovingly guidance and through structural participation.
