💛 Wondering if your baby is getting enough breastmilk?

You’re not alone — this is one of the most common concerns I hear from new parents. Because we can’t see how much baby is drinking, it can feel like a bit of a guessing game!

Here are some little signs that your baby is likely getting enough milk:
✨ Feeding at least 8–12 times in 24 hours, especially in the first couple months
✨ You can hear or see frequent swallowing during feeds
✨ By day 6, at least 6 wet diapers each day
✨ Typically having stools everyday
✨ Baby seems relaxed and satisfied after feeding
✨ Steady weight gain after the first few days

And here are some signs that your baby may not be transferring milk well — and could use a little extra support:
- Fewer than 6 wet diapers, or less frequent stools
- Sleepy or hard-to-wake baby who doesn’t feed well
- Feeds that last over an hour, very frequent feedings, or end with baby still hungry
- Clicking or smacking noises while nursing
- Ni**le pain, pinched or creased ni***es after feeds
- No weight gain or slow gain after the first week
- Baby coming on and off the breast repeatedly or appearing frustrated

If you notice any of these, please know — you’re not alone, and it doesn’t mean breastfeeding isn’t working. Often, these are just signs that baby needs a little help with positioning, latch, or oral function to transfer milk more effectively for a happier feeding.

With the right support, things can improve quickly. 💕
I’d love to help you and your baby feel more comfortable and confident with feeding. - Chelle, Wellspring Lactation
