The hamstrings are crucial to keep limber because they can affect the whole backside of you. And by the whole backside, I mean from the top of your head all the way down to the bottom of your foot.

We have a fascia membrane that runs through that whole space, woven in between every muscle fiber. When one area is super tight, it pulls on the whole band. So we loosen up our entire back by focusing on our hamstrings.

Slow down and ease up. Breathing and relaxing encourages our muscles to lengthen.

The quadriceps come from the knee and extend all the way up to the very top-most part of your pelvis, your ASIS, which is your anterior superior iliac spine.

There is going to be a test later. lol 😉

Most people stretching their quads only get to the chunkiest section of the muscle. The proper quad stretch lengthens the whole thing, all the way to where it attaches to the pelvis and at the knee. When the quads are tight at the top, they pull on the pelvis forward and creates pressure through your lower spine.

A lot of low back tension actually starts in the front of the body. When the hip flexors, psoas, and quadriceps get tight, they pull the pelvis forward and create an extra arch in the low back.

This gentle lunge opens that whole front line. Keep your weight on the shin rather than the kneecap. Walk the front foot forward until you feel the stretch travel up through the upper quad. Keep your pelvis upright, not tipped forward.

Notice if one side feels tighter than the other. That can give you helpful information about your body.

If you have pain when you twist or you have noticed a rotation in your body, this stretch is for you.

To make it a self Myofascial Release, use pillows on both sides to bolster your knee and comfortably give yourself a full five minutes in each direction. Lying on your back lets gravity do the work, without any pushing or straining. You are simply letting the spine rotate.

Give yourself a few minutes to lie flat on your back afterward to come into balance.
