We were delighted to welcome nursing students from Jeonbuk National University in South Korea this week.

The students toured our History Center and learned about our rich history and hospital. We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with these bright, enthusiastic students and future nurses!

"HCMC saved my life, now I leave it my legacy." -Paula Brown-Crowson

For Paula Brown-Crowson, leaving a gift to Hennepin Healthcare in her will is ultimately an act of trust, built over years as an employee, a donor and, eventually, a patient.

Her connection to Hennepin Healthcare goes back even further. Paula, a member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, was born at Minneapolis General Hospital, and she had her sons at HCMC. After taking time away from work to raise her son Kobe, she discovered an opening for a community health worker at HCMC's former Brooklyn Center Clinic.

With grills, campfires, fryers and more, burns can happen quickly in the summer. 🔥
• Be aware of hot surfaces and equipment, especially around food vendors
• Be careful with hot drinks and freshly cooked food
• Keep children away from grills, fryers and other hot equipment
• Give food vendors and cooking areas plenty of space
• Remember that hot weather + hot surfaces can make for an extra toasty day!

This week, Annunciation student Sophia Forchas and her family shared a powerful message of gratitude at our Celebration of Hope, honoring the extraordinary skill, compassion, and dedication of her care teams: “Forever heroes, we are eternally grateful.” Today, the Forchas Four returned on Remembrance Day, bringing breakfast for the teams who cared for Sophia one year ago. Thank you to the Forchas family for these heartfelt gifts of hope.

One year ago, Annunciation student Maeve Rye was rushed to HCMC, where she received lifesaving care. This weekend, the Rye family hosted a toy drive with friends and loved ones to support our Child Life Program and today, on Remembrance Day they returned to HCMC to drop off those gifts. For Maeve and her parents, Tim and Katie, it’s a meaningful way to pass along the same kindness and compassion that meant so much to their family during Maeve’s recovery. Thank you to the Rye family for your generosity.

Today, we pause to remember the lives forever changed by the tragedy at Annunciation Church and School one year ago and to honor the lives of Fletcher Merkel and Harper Moyski.

To all the patients cared for, their families and to every person who helped that day: you are remembered, you are seen.

We remain grateful to the healthcare teams, emergency responders, and community partners who stood together that day with compassion and unwavering commitment, and to everyone who continues to show up for this community. There is no timeline for healing. Our hearts are with everyone carrying the weight of this day, and with all who continue to heal, grieve, and remember.
