The little red wagon was on the road again! 🦫🚗

Yesterday, we split up and headed to Minot North and Rugby Public Schools, chatting with classes about all things speech-language pathology!

📸 Shoutout to our Minot North crew for remembering to take pictures. The Rugby crew? Well…we promise we were there!

Next stop: Watford City! We’ll be at the Career Exploration Industry Day on Wednesday, November 4th! Stop by and chat with us about SLP and opportunities at Minot State!

We love taking our show on the road. So…which school should we visit next?! 👀

Wheel of Fortune was on the lesson plan this week! 🎡

Our second-year grad students played Wheel of Fortune with residents during their acquired language group at Trinity Homes!

Special shoutout to Georgia who built an actual Wheel of Fortune wheel for the residents to spin! 👏

Simulation Lab!

The first-year graduate students are practicing patient interviews in CSD 522: Neurogenic Communication Disorders. With the help of a graduate assistant and some talking mannequins, they’re learning how to gather meaningful information beyond what’s in a patient’s chart!

The second-year grad students have been absolute rock stars this semester, tackling written comps, studying for the Praxis, and everything in between!

But giving 110% is nothing new for this crew. Throwing it back to this summer’s Speech Sound Camp, where they gave it their ALL from start to finish.

Swipe to see the photographic evidence. 😂

The second-year grad students hit the road for two busy days of speech and hearing screenings at Turtle Mountain Head Start! Opportunities like this give our students a chance to put their clinical skills to work while gaining experience out in the communities we serve.

Thanks for having us, Turtle Mountain Head Start- we always love getting out of the clinic and into the community!

👏 A big congratulations to Courtney Olson on her recent publication!

Today's featured article is "Improving Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Student Confidence in Evidence-Based Practice" from Courtney Olson and Carla Tierney-Hendricks! When asked to report on their greatest takeaway from their article, they indicated "I think the biggest takeaway from the research is that there are structured ways supervisors can support students (so supervisors aren't always running blind)- we just need to keep finding them."
To learn more about these structured ways, as well as to learn more about their research as a whole, follow this link to read their work: https://ir.library.illinoisstate.edu/tlcsd/vol10/iss1/15/
