🚨 Don't Ignore These Warning Signs!

Because retinal conditions often develop gradually—or sometimes very suddenly—it’s important to pay attention to sudden changes in your vision.

Watch for these key symptoms:
✨ Flashes of light in your vision
🌧️ A sudden increase in "floaters" (spots or web-like lines)
🕳️ A dark curtain or shadow coming across your field of vision
〰️ Distorted vision (straight lines looking wavy or bent)
🔍 Blurry or dark spots in the center of your sight

If you notice any of these signs, don't wait. Timely care from a retina specialist can make all the difference in saving your vision.

We are so excited to launch our official page to help keep our Mishawaka community informed about eye health.

To kick things off, let's play a quick game of Myth vs. Fact about Macular Degeneration (AMD)—a leading cause of vision loss:

"Myth or Fact: If my vision is 20/20, my retinas must be perfectly healthy."

Drop your guess (Myth ❌ or Fact in the comments before reading further!

🔍 The Answer: MYTH!
Many serious retinal conditions, including early-stage macular degeneration, can develop silently without affecting your straight-ahead (20/20) reading vision at first. By the time noticeable changes occur, the condition may already be advanced.

💡 Try This Quick 5-Second Test Right Now:
The grid pictured below is called an Amsler Grid. It is a simple tool Dr. Kurochkin uses to help patients monitor their central vision at home:

1. Cover one eye and look directly at the black dot in the center.
2. While staring at the dot, notice if any of the straight lines in the grid appear wavy, blurry, or dark.
3. Switch eyes and repeat.

What to look for: If the grid looks perfectly straight like the left side, your central vision is currently stable. If any lines look wavy, bent, or grayed out like the right side, it is highly recommended to have a professional retinal evaluation.
