Please join us in welcoming Kriya Shortt to the SOKS Board of Directors!

Kriya brings extensive leadership experience, a passion for community involvement, and a personal connection to the mission of SOKS. As senior vice president of Global Parts and Distribution at Textron Aviation, she brings expertise in management, marketing, strategic planning, and public relations, along with years of nonprofit board service.

Through her son's involvement in Special Olympics, Kriya has witnessed firsthand how sports and opportunity can build confidence, develop leadership skills, and create meaningful relationships. She has seen her son grow through his experiences as an athlete, including building friendships with fellow athletes and coaches.

With more than 30 years of professional experience and a deep appreciation for the impact of Special Olympics, Kriya is excited to help advance our mission and support athletes, families, and communities across Kansas. We are thrilled to welcome Kriya to our Board of Directors and look forward to the experience and passion she will bring to helping our athletes thrive!

We created the Victory Gala as a way to celebrate victories. Things like an athlete getting the chance to practice and compete in a sport they love. Having a way to build new friendships. Families finding community. An athlete discovering they can do something they never thought would be possible. Every single person who gets the opportunity to belong. & of course, earning a gold medal.

Please join us in welcoming Ruthie Kurtz-Bosley to the SOKS Board of Directors!

Ruthie has been a Special Olympics Kansas coach for the past five years, and her passion for our athletes and our mission continues to grow every day. As a coach, Ruthie has seen firsthand the confidence, friendships, independence, and sense of belonging that Special Olympics creates. She believes inclusion means making sure every athlete knows they are wanted, accepted, and valued.

Now, Ruthie is bringing that passion to the next level as a member of our Board of Directors. She hopes to advocate for athletes, support coaches and local programs, help develop new fundraising ideas, and work alongside fellow board members to help SOKS continue to grow.

Welcome, Ruthie! We’re grateful to have you helping lead the way for the future of Special Olympics Kansas.

At Heartstrings Community Foundation, at least 50% of their employees are SOKS athletes.

Employees serve as Sales Associates with Goody Delivery, work with customers and process donations at Sacks, create handmade cards, soy candles and wreaths through Heartfully Made, work on cleaning crews, make dog treats, and volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

Their core value says it best: “All people have skills and abilities to share.” By creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, they are opening doors, building confidence, and showing the community that inclusive employment works.
