From Barry Goldwater Scholarship Recipient to an Oncology Researcher at the University of Alabama Birmingham’s Department of Surgery, this girl does it all!

Pre-Medicine Student and Pre-Health Ambassador, Hannah Henson, is spending her summer conducting research on how to effectively identify immune cell markers that can lead to better treatment planning and prognosis for breast cancer. Just one of many steps in her passion and pursuit of improving women’s health.

Experiential opportunities for Pre-Health students are not always health-related! Unique experiences allow you to expand knowledge outside the world of healthcare. It also gives you neat things to discuss on applications and in interviews.

For example, Chemistry (Pre-Dental) major and PHA, Jill Kubat. This summer Jill is interning at NASA in the materials branch as a Materials Engineering Intern. She will be doing research over the next 10 weeks on Carbon-Carbon Composite materials. In her role she will code and analyze data related to the performance of these composites, which are mainly used in high temperature aerospace applications. She is super excited for this opportunity to learn from extremely talented, experienced researchers.

We’ve been busy here at the Dr. A Randle and Marilyn W. White Healthcare Pathways Resource Center!

On Friday, April 24th, 2026 we celebrated our new name and location through a ribbon-cutting by Dr. Randle and Mrs. Marilyn along with their daughter Dr. Rachael Faught.

On Friday, May 1st, 2026 we held another ribbon-cutting in honor of our dedicated “Ambassador Hub” space by Drs. Karen and William Hulett.

We appreciate the generosity and support of our donors and Doctor Dawgs. Their contributions have made it possible to support our current and future pre-health students.
