The Arc Western Montana

In 1987, Montana State legislators took the first steps toward integrating institutionalized people with developmental disabilities into communities.

The Arc Western Montana, formerly Missoula Developmental Service Corporation (MDSC), has been opening doors and transforming lives since 1990 for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Montana. The legislation they passed created the concept of a nonprofit organization managing the human services support and carrying the fiduciary responsibility for adults with developmental di

sabilities placed in group residences as part of a broader urban community social movement. The city that bid for and won the practical application of such funding appropriation from the State for this innovative approach to caring for and nurturing folks with severe developmental disabilities was Missoula. The organization it established in 1989 was the Missoula Developmental Service Corporation a private fee-for-service nonprofit entity guided by a volunteer Board of Directors. By October 1990, three homes were ready to open their doors to the first 20 people coming from institutions where many of them had literally grown up. The organization now supports over 60 adults living in 10 homes and a day services center. A unique part of our services is that we offer clients with critical physical conditions, requiring emergency assistance and/or treatment, a unique nurse-managed residence with 24-hour on-site medical support.

**SPLASH was a HUGE success!** 💦

What an incredible evening of fun, laughter, and making memories! Our folks had a blast getting out, swimming, floating, going down the slides, laughing with friends, and enjoying an evening filled with pure JOY!

As you can see from those smiles, there was definitely fun had be had by all! These are the moments that create lasting memories and remind us how important it is to make space for fun, connection, and community.

A HUGE thank you to the Hanson Family for supporting this incredible evening and helping make it possible for our folks to enjoy such a special experience.

And a big thank you to our Arc staff for supporting our clients, joining in the fun, and helping make the evening such a success. Your support makes experiences like this possible!

Day Services hit the road last week for a fun filled adventure to St. Mary's Mission in Stevensville! After exploring, the gang headed to Travelers' Rest in Lolo for a shady picnic and some summer relaxation.

⚾🧡 What a FUNtastic evening at the PaddleHeads game!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who purchased tickets, joined us for this amazing community event, and came out to have fun with our crew. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, make new connections, and enjoy a night filled with laughter, community, and baseball. A fun night was truly had by all!

We would also like to extend a special thank you to MonTech for generously lending us the interactive toys and adaptive equipment we showcased at our table. They were a huge hit! The hands-on activities gave us a wonderful opportunity to engage with patrons as they entered the stadium, share who we are, and highlight the incredible individuals we serve.

Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and supportive community.

What a great evening at our first PaddleHeads Community Tuesday!

Thank you to our clients, families, staff, and community partners who came together for a night of baseball, laughter, connection, and belonging. A big thank you to our staff teams for their flexibility and teamwork in making the evening possible.

We were also grateful for the warm welcome from the Missoula PaddleHeads organization and community. It was an inclusive, accessible, and fun experience all around.

We’re excited about the new community connections made and already looking forward to the next one!
