I treat choosing a restaurant much like going on a first date. I want to know: Where are you from? How did you grow up? Are you local? Who are your parents? Only I am asking these questions about the food. Where was it grown? How was the soil treated? Who raised it? Were chemicals used? Is it truly organic, locally sourced, and prepared with ingredients I can recognize?
After interviewing David about regenerative food, the misconceptions surrounding the term, what exists beyond the label, and the growing importance of food security, I found myself examining my choices even more carefully. Words such as natural, sustainable, organic, and regenerative may sound reassuring, but a label cannot tell the entire story. We must be willing to look deeper, ask questions, and understand the journey our food took before arriving on the plate, including grocery store produce.
That is exactly what made my experience at Green Source Missoula, Montana, stand out. The food was local, organic, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. The salad was hearty, colorful, and satisfying, while the dressing was absolutely delicious. Their Positive juice, made with orange, grapefruit, beet, carrot, lime, and ginger, was one of the best raw, organic, cold-pressed juices I have tasted.
Healthy eating is not merely about choosing a salad or ordering something labeled organic. It is about developing a relationship with our food, knowing its origins, supporting people who respect the land, and recognizing that every purchase helps shape the food system we will leave behind.
