Today as we celebrate Mary Davis’ 6th Birthday, I am taking a pause to update you all and thank God for the blessings he has bestowed upon our family… Words simply fall short in expressing how grateful we are for our sunshine girl - she is the happiest girl I know and has the most grateful, pure heart. 🫶🏻 Mary Davis is as healthy as possible, able to go to school, able to attend friends’ birthday parties, able to participate in gymnastics camp, and all the “normal” kid stuff - it’s absolutely amazing!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Next, I apologize it has been quite some time since I’ve updated. Life has been busy since our last post. After starting kindergarten last fall, Mary Davis’ immune system had an incredibly hard time fighting the germs and viruses she was not exposed to since she wasn’t able to attend preschool. Mary Davis had several ER visits for fevers due to upper respiratory illnesses over the winter and spring months {we’re talking nearly every week!!!!} Our amazing team had the idea to try IVIG with her immunotherapy infusions to supplement her immune system to keep her well & out of the ER… This addition of IVIG has been SO helpful - [knock on wood] she has not had a single ER visit for fever since starting this therapy mid April, which is quite a streak!!!!! 💪🏻🙌🏻
We have just returned from a quick trip to Cincinnati for an airway scope to check on her tracheal stenosis (narrowing for her windpipe from her tracheostomy). We are thrilled to report everything looks great, her airway is growing properly/proportionally as she grows, praise the Lord above!!! 🙏🏼
During our Cincinnati visit, we also met with her lead oncologist and the team is thrilled at how well she is doing and amazed at how much she (and her hair) has grown!! Since Mary Davis’ relapse in 2024 the plan has been to continue immunotherapy indefinitely and to continue surveillance scans every 3 months given the aggressive nature and how little is known about her cancer. Mary Davis’ most recent surveillance scans last week were stable!! 🙌🏻 Again, thank you Jesus!!!! Additionally, her past few sets of scans have shown this spot in her lung remains stable. Her team is in discussions with specialists about a possible surgery to remove the nodule. Removing this area would allow the doctors to examine the cells under a microscope for better insight of what’s going on inside her body, and could *possibly* give us an end to immunotherapy infusions!!
