Hello sunshine’s—
It’s me, tuning in from the fields of flowers and sunshine 🧚. I’m just checking in for a few things. 1st up- don’t forget about the sound bath and plant walk that’s coming up next weekend. Tickets are on the website! 2nd- I’ll be up on the Choctaw Rez this weekend all set up with an info table, wild foods, herbs, books, etc. I’ll be doing free herbal consultations and blabbing about wild foods and medicines. My mama will be with me, yay! I hope to see yall up there for car show and color run!

This is the busiest season of all for us over here because if we’re not gathering every single day then we are already behind. Add to that running a house and chasing after teenagers and trying to keep up with life, family, community responsibilities, and everything else and honestly I just don’t find myself online as much these days.

This is a one woman show over here and I really appreciate all the patience, understanding, and support yall show my small business. I know some things (shampoo and conditioner anyone? 🫣) have been out of stock for a minute, but I’m trying to change that soon. There’s a ton of new inventory and summer offerings that I just haven’t been able to put on the website yet, but soon.

Bc I haven’t been posting much the algorithm has forsaken me so if you see this say hiiiii in the comments! How’s your summer going? Enjoy all the photos from life lately. Love yall!

Hello loves,

Ruth’s Garden and I are holding a special meetup here in Mobile on June 14th. Earlier this month, we had the honor of hosting a team building event for Kindred Yoga, and it left us feeling so recharged and inspired to do it again. I shared some clips on TikTok and somehow, someway, that video found its way to Mobile locals. Yay! Everyone was commenting about how excited they are and how this is exactly what they need. I don’t know, I just have a feeling that this is going to be a really special morning.

We’ll be spending the morning together at the beautiful Japanese Gardens. We’ll start things off with a plant walk where folks can learn about local ecology and place based wild foods and medicines. After the walk, we’ll settle in under the trees to enjoy an herbal tea service along with a guided meditation and sound bath with India. Bring a blanket or yoga mat to sit on, and bring a friend too!

Registration is required through the website, and as always, I have a sliding scale available for anyone who needs it. Just send us a message. We can’t wait to see everyone!

Ticket info here👇🏽 space is limited, but don’t be discouraged if its sold out because we are already planning the next one. Love yall!

I first learned about shrub yellow root from reading Tommy Bass’s experience with it up here in the Appalachias. I then went on to learn more about it from his apprentice, Darryl Patton.

This plant has been used for millennia down here in the south by herbal folks, natives, and those who’ve gone looking for an herbal remedy for what ails them. It’s especially indicated for stomach ulcers caused by h pylori and even ulcers in the mouth. Aside from healing up ulcers, yellow root is a fantastic bitter tonic that rejuvenates both the liver and gall bladder. You can even use it as a poultice for its wound healing and astringent properties.

It’s antiseptic, anti microbial, and anti parasitic. The same constituent, berberine, that gives it its yellow hue can also be found in goldenseal and oregon grape, both of which have similar properties. This is a lesser known herb to folks outside of the southeast, but it’s a damn good one to know and have in your home apothecary.

Proper identification is your responsibility as well as ethical gathering. Be mindful of your impact and treat these wild spaces with reverence and care.

Thankful to have alllll the plant nations who love and support us throughout our time here on Earth. Western medicine is great and all, but it’ll never offer what plant medicine can over time. It’s not about quick fixes, it’s about intentional support, balance, harmony and supporting vitality and longevity through seasonal use, relationship, and communal understanding.

If you’re in the Mobile #251 area and you’re looking for a slower pace and something to do, we’d love to meet you! I’m an herbalist, educator, naturalist and earth lover and India is a mental health professional who specializes in sound therapy and energy healing. Together we offer unique experiences like nature/plant walks, sound baths, guided mediations and more. There’s more to do in Mobile than what meets the eye! We hope to see you soon, friend.

We’ve officially set the date for June 14th from 10:30–12:30ish at the Japanese Gardens. The energy exchange is $30 and includes a guided community plant walk, herbal tea service, guided meditation, and sound bath session.

This experience is meant to be grounding, peaceful, educational, and a chance to slow down and connect with both the land and one another.

We’ve opened registration for up to 25 participants this round, but if you miss this one, don’t worry, we absolutely plan to host more in the future. We’re so excited to share this space with y’all.

Registration is required and can be found on my website under “Community Events.” There’s also a link in my bio. 🌿

Good morning sunshine’s, I’ve been locked out of my business inbox for the last week and I’ve been so busy with life and kids that I put getting back into it on the back burner. I’m going to get back to everyone who sent messages soon! Remember, you can always reach me on my website if it’s something important. Facebook isn’t always the best place as I get a lot of spam messages here anyway.

Happy Sunday! ✨🌞

Excellent information! Especially timely considering I was just able to load up on milky oats and fresh oatstraw from Blue Boy Herbs earlier this spring! 🥰

🌿I've been making huge batches of nearly double strength Oat straw restorative infusions.

(I'm doing 3oz oat straw per 8 cups boiling water)

Typically I get them started in the morning, pop it in the fridge by the evening,& like shown here get it straining when I wake up.

Most folks will jabber about Oat Straw for her amazing nervous system, stress busting, frazzled mind calming properties & that's true enough!

Yet, if we dig deeper she also does some cool thing where with her unique compounds Avenanthramides(AVAs) (there are 40 types 😳)which are pretty much exclusively found in oats!

These compounds have been shown to boost 2 genetic function in your body called SOD & GPX1. What?

SOD is like your first line defense via mitochondrial function, it swops in & attacks the very first oxadative stress byproduct of energy creation.

GPX1 is your last line defense & is no joke, it takes the hydrogen peroxide (oxidant) made by SOD & turns it back into water. Quenching oxidation. It uses glutathione, your master antioxidant to do this.

Here's the tricky bit,if these two steps aren't running well you end up loaded down with oxadative stress & that oxadative stress reliably depletes glutathione, the then lack of glutathione makes GPX1 in particular under function & it becomes a vicious oxadative stress cycle.

The catch is that AVAs help restore their function BUT you'll really wana make sure that you are doing the following before drinking a gallon of oat straw 😅

Eating a lot of grass fed gelitan preferably or taking glycine as a supplement so you can make more glutathione.

Getting enough bio available selenium in your diet (Brazil nuts are loaded with mold & not bioavailable selenium) via seafoods or supplements so GPX1 can do it's job as it USES SELENIUM TO FUNCTION.You can't stimulate output if you're low in selenium.

What's really interesting & a different rabbit hole all together is if you're a chemically sensitive person...get eyes on your GPX1 mutation status...

Anyhow, what's crazy is how much more I FEEL this oat straw working in ways I've never experienced before because I deeply restored glycine/selenium before I began drinking her💚
