Excess eyelid skin and ptosis can look similar, but they are two different conditions.

Excess eyelid skin occurs when extra skin on the upper eyelid begins to overhang the natural crease and can affect peripheral vision.

Ptosis is caused by weakness or dysfunction of the muscle that lifts the upper eyelid, causing the eyelid itself to sit lower than normal.

Because the cause is different, the treatment is different too. An evaluation with an oculoplastic surgeon can help determine what is contributing to your eyelid concerns and what treatment may be appropriate.
