πβ¨ Car Seat Safety Tips for Holiday Travel β¨π
At FBL Physicians, your familyβs safety is our top priority! With holiday travel in full swing, itβs essential to ensure your little ones are safe and secure during every car ride. Here are some tips to keep your children protected:
1οΈβ£ Choose the Right Seat
β’ Rear-Facing Seats: For infants and toddlers until at least age 2 or until they outgrow the seatβs weight and height limits.
β’ Forward-Facing Seats: For older toddlers with a harness until they reach the seatβs limits.
β’ Booster Seats: For kids who outgrow forward-facing seats until a seatbelt fits correctly (usually around age 8β12).
2οΈβ£ Ensure Proper Installation
β’ Follow the car seat manufacturerβs instructions and your vehicleβs manual.
β’ The seat should not move more than 1 inch when pulled at the base.
β’ If in doubt, visit a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician for a free check.
3οΈβ£ Dress Safely
β’ Avoid bulky coats or clothing. These can prevent the harness from fitting snugly.
β’ Use blankets over the harness for warmth if needed.
4οΈβ£ Secure the Harness Properly
β’ The harness should lie flat and snug against your childβs body.
β’ The chest clip should be at armpit level.
5οΈβ£ Check the Expiration Date
β’ Car seats expire after 6β10 years. Always check the label for the expiration date to ensure safety.
Bonus Tips for Holiday Travel:
β’ Plan extra stops to give your little ones a break from sitting.
β’ Keep snacks, water, and toys within reach to keep kids entertained and comfortable.
π From our family at FBL Physicians to yours, we wish you safe travels and a joyful holiday season! If you have any questions about car seat safety or your childβs health, give us a call or schedule an appointment.
