Surgical Association of Mobile, P.A.

Surgical Association of Mobile, P.A. Surgical Association of Mobile has been serving patients since 1973 as the largest private, independ Quatrino, and Dr. Timothy W.

SAMPA surgeons have a long history of working on the cutting edge of surgery. We were the first to perform a laparoscopic adrenalectomy anywhere in the world! SAMPA completed the first laparoscopic colectomy in 1991, the first laparoscopic gastric bypass in the region in 2001, the first robotic surgery in the region in 2013, among many other firsts. Our specialized services include a full range of

weight loss procedures, breast surgery, acid reflux surgery, and colorectal surgery along with other general surgery procedures. The SAMPA team offers minimally invasive options and robotically assisted surgery for many of the complex procedures we perform meaning decreased risk, smaller scars, and less pain for the patient. We would love to help you find better health and are ready to cheer you on along your journey. Our caring and capable team includes Dr. Jeffrey Hannon, Dr. Daniel Lane, Dr. Forrest Ringold, Dr. Dusty Smith, Dr. Barry Ballard, Jr., Dr. Gregory M. Sleep is one of the most underestimated tools in metabolic health.
Most adults between 18 and 65 need seven to nine hours of sleep each night, yet many people consistently fall short without realizing how deeply it impacts the body.

Sleep affects far more than energy levels. It plays a critical role in appetite regulation, hormone release, blood sugar balance, tissue repair, recovery, and the body’s ability to regulate weight and metabolism effectively.

Even adding an extra 30 to 60 minutes of sleep each night can create measurable improvements in overall health.
Sometimes better health doesn’t begin with doing more. Sometimes it begins with doing less and finally getting enough rest!

Since 1973, patients across the Gulf Coast have trusted us with some of the most important moments of their lives.
Today, we’re proud to continue that legacy operating at both Springhill Medical Center and Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.

For us, exceptional surgical care means listening closely, treating patients like family, and showing up with the same level of compassion we would want for the people we love most.

Your gut is home to trillions of bacteria and researchers are discovering they may influence far more than digestion.
The conversation around gut health has shifted dramatically in recent years. Scientists are now moving beyond simple associations and uncovering how disruptions in the gut microbiome may contribute to serious chronic diseases, including colorectal cancer.

When the balance of intestinal bacteria becomes disrupted, a process known as dysbiosis, certain microbes and metabolites may begin triggering harmful changes inside the body including chronic inflammation, DNA damage, immune dysfunction, and cellular changes that can develop years before a tumor is ever detected.

In many ways, cancer research is beginning to reveal that the story may start long before symptoms appear at the microscopic level.

Most patients walk into their first bariatric consultation asking one question:
“How much weight will I lose?”

But there are a few other questions we recommend you ask as well, because bariatric surgery changes more than a number on the scale!

Every consultation should include honest conversations about:
What is the best procedure for me? How much weight will I REALISTICALLY lose? Will I ever be able to enjoy food the same way again? Can surgery affect my relationships or marriage? What are the chances of regaining the weight?

No two patients will have identical answers, even if they undergo the same procedure, so it’s important to ask your doctor.

Colorectal cancer isn’t rare, and it’s increasingly affecting younger adults.
As the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second-leading cause of cancer-related death, colorectal cancer remains one of the most urgent public health concerns we face today.

Genetics absolutely play a role, but so do the everyday patterns we often overlook like physical activity, nutrition, body weight, and long-term lifestyle habits.

Research continues to show strong links between obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and colorectal cancer risk, not only in who develops it, but also in outcomes after diagnosis.

Prevention starts with the choices we make years before symptoms ever appear.

What actually counts as exercise?
A walk around the block, a swim, chasing your kids around the yard, or yes, the housework we mentioned a few posts ago. A gym membership counts too... but only if you actually use it. 😅

Exercise looks different for everyone. Jill’s here to share what counts, what doesn’t, and how to incorporate movement into daily life.
