We have applied for the High Five Grant for women business owners raising children. I love that this is available and they ask for our reasoning behind building our business…
Our “why” begins with family.
My sister and I are nurses by profession, but entrepreneurship was never really our world. That belonged to our sister, Janelle who passed away in 2022. She had the entrepreneurial spirit in our family—the passion, drive, and courage to build something of her own. Losing her left an enormous hole in our family, and when the opportunity came for us to purchase Shangri-La Salon & Day Spa, it felt like an opportunity to carry a piece of her forward.
We want to build Shangri-La into something that creates a better life for our families while honoring the ambition and passion our sister had. We don’t want that part of her story to end with her.
But our “why” has grown beyond our own family.
Shangri-La is a place where people come to feel better—inside and out. Under one roof, we have talented professionals providing hair services, esthetics, massage therapy, chiropractic care, cosmetic injectables, nail services, and IV infusion therapy. Each business is different, but we share a common purpose: helping people take care of themselves and leave feeling a little more confident, refreshed, and cared for than when they walked in.
We also love that Shangri-La provides a home for other professionals and small-business owners to build their own careers and pursue their own dreams. As we grow, our goal is not simply to make our business more successful. We want to create more opportunities for the people working alongside us, strengthen the businesses within our walls, and continue creating a space where our community can come to look and feel their best.
For us, Shangri-La represents family, opportunity, and legacy. We are building something we hope our families can be proud of, something that positively impacts our community, and something that keeps a little bit of our sister’s entrepreneurial spirit alive.
That is our why.
