People have told me for years, “I don’t know how you do it.” Or they’re surprised when I’m perfectly willing to go somewhere alone, start something new, or do something if no one else wants to join me.
I’ve been thinking about why that is.
I’ve never been someone who’s overly concerned with what people think of me. I’ve never been afraid to start over, speak up, take risks, or chase something that doesn’t make sense to everyone else.
Maybe it’s because my grandparents introduced me to faith by taking me to church when I was growing up.
Maybe it’s because my mom always believed I could do anything and made sure I believed it too.
Maybe it’s because my dad raised me a little like one of the boys, and every time I climbed into his Mustang I’d see that “No Fear” sticker. Funny how something so simple can stay with you.
I think all of those things helped shape me.
But if I’m honest, the older I get, the more I realize those things only built the foundation. My relationship with God is what has made me unshakable. It’s not confidence in myself.. it’s confidence in a God who is bigger than whatever I’m facing.
When your identity isn’t rooted in other people’s opinions, criticism loses its power. Fear loses its grip. You stop living for approval and start living with purpose.
That’s also the heart behind the name Salt & Light Wellness.
When I was choosing a name, I kept coming back to Jesus’ words in Matthew
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13–16)
I also loved that some of the therapies I hope to offer promote healing through salt and light. It felt like a beautiful picture of what I want this place to be. Caring for people physically while never losing sight of what matters spiritually.
I don’t have all the answers. I’m still learning, still growing in my faith, and still finding my footing. But my prayer is simple: that God would use me to serve this community well, and that through Salt & Light Wellness, people would leave feeling healthier, encouraged, and reminded that there is always hope.
“The fear of the Lord doesn’t make you timid. It makes you unshakable.”
