Float Therapy 101 | Part 10: Is It Safe to Float While Pregnant?

This is one of the questions we're asked most often!

The short answer is: For many healthy pregnancies, yes. We always recommend checking with your OB-GYN, midwife, or healthcare provider before floating—especially if you're seeking relief from a specific pregnancy symptom or have a high-risk pregnancy.

As someone who has floated while pregnant myself, I can honestly say it was one of my favorite forms of self-care.

One of the biggest benefits I experienced was relief from pelvic pressure and round ligament pain. As your body becomes almost weightless in the water, many moms find welcome relief from the constant pull of gravity on tired muscles, joints, and ligaments.

Floating also creates something that's hard to find during pregnancy...

An hour of uninterrupted quiet.

No errands.
No notifications.
No expectations.

Just you and your baby.

Many expecting moms tell us they feel especially connected to their little one during their float, particularly in the third trimester when baby's movements become easier to notice in the stillness.

Every pregnancy is different, which is why it's important to talk with your healthcare provider before scheduling your float. At GH Float, we also generally recommend discontinuing float therapy after 37 weeks, as labor can begin at any time.

Pregnancy asks so much of your body.

Sometimes, giving it an hour of complete support and rest is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

Have questions about floating while pregnant? We'd love to help you decide if it's the right fit for you.

Float Therapy 101 | Part 9: "Why Am I Sore After a Float?"

Believe it or not, this is a question we occasionally hear.

"I thought floating was supposed to make me feel better...so why do I feel a little sore?"

The good news is that, for most people, any soreness is temporary and completely understandable.

Think about it this way...

Your body spends every day fighting gravity.

Your muscles are constantly making tiny adjustments to keep you standing, sitting, walking, driving, or even just holding your head upright.

During a float, all of that effort disappears.

For an hour, your body is fully supported. Muscles that have been unconsciously "on duty" for months—or even years—finally have permission to let go.

Sometimes, those chronically tight muscles relax so completely that they feel a little tender afterward, much like how you might feel after a deep tissue massage or stretching muscles you didn't realize were tight.

Some people also become more aware of areas that have been holding tension for a long time. It's not that the float created the discomfort—it simply gave your body enough quiet to notice what had been there all along.

Most people leave feeling lighter, looser, and deeply relaxed.

A small number of guests may notice mild soreness or fatigue after their first float, especially if they've been carrying significant physical tension or chronic stress. That feeling typically passes within a day or two and often becomes less common as floating becomes part of a regular wellness routine.

Our advice?

💧 Drink plenty of water.
🚶 Take a gentle walk or stretch.
😴 Give yourself permission to rest if your body asks for it.

Every float is different because every version of you is different.

Your body has an incredible ability to heal when it's finally given the chance to rest—and sometimes that process feels a little different than we expected.

If you ever have questions about how you're feeling after a float, please reach out. We love talking about the floating experience, and we're always happy to help you understand what your body may be telling you.

✨ Magnesium isn’t just one thing.

When people say they’re “taking magnesium,” they’re often talking about one of many different forms—each with its own strengths.

That’s why we’re excited to carry MagTech® Magnesium at GH Float & Wellness. Rather than relying on a single type, it combines three highly bioavailable forms designed to support both the body and the brain.

🧠 Magnesium L-Threonate (Magtein®)
• The only form shown to effectively raise magnesium levels in the brain.
• Supports memory, learning, cognitive function, and may promote a calmer, more resilient nervous system.

💪 Magnesium Glycinate
• One of the gentlest forms on the stomach.
• Often chosen to support relaxation, healthy sleep, muscle recovery, and stress management.

⚡ Magnesium Taurate
• Magnesium paired with the amino acid taurine.
• Supports heart health, healthy blood pressure, nerve function, and a balanced response to stress.

Many people don’t realize magnesium plays a role in over 300 enzymatic reactions throughout the body, influencing everything from muscle function and sleep quality to energy production and nervous system regulation.

If you experience things like:
✨ Muscle tension
✨ Difficulty relaxing
✨ Poor sleep
✨ Stress overload
✨ Frequent headaches
✨ Brain fog

…magnesium may be one piece of the puzzle.

While floating itself encourages the nervous system to shift toward a more restorative state, pairing your wellness routine with adequate magnesium may provide additional support for recovery, relaxation, and overall well-being.

Stop by the front desk if you’d like to learn more about whether this blend might be a good fit for you. As always, supplements aren’t one-size-fits-all, and we recommend checking with your healthcare provider if you have kidney disease, take medications that interact with magnesium, or have questions about what’s best for your body.

💙 Sometimes the smallest daily habits make the biggest difference.

Float Therapy 101 | Part 8: What Does the Research Say?

Throughout this series, we've talked about what float therapy is, how it works, and the experiences so many people have while floating.

But here's something you may not know...

Float therapy isn't just based on stories—it's backed by decades of scientific research.

In fact, our float room came directly from the Float Research Collective and is the same style of research tank used in many of today's clinical float studies. That has always been incredibly meaningful to me because it connects what we offer here in Grays Harbor to the research helping shape the future of float therapy.

Researchers continue to study Floatation-REST for a variety of conditions, and while the science is still growing, the findings have been incredibly encouraging.

Studies have found floating may help:
🧠 Reduce stress and anxiety
❤️ Lower blood pressure
😴 Improve sleep quality
💪 Decrease muscle tension and pain
🦴 Support recovery from chronic pain conditions
🧘 Increase relaxation and overall well-being

One of the things I appreciate most about the research is that it often confirms what we've seen firsthand over the years.

People leave feeling calmer.

They sleep better.

They hurt less.

They feel more like themselves.

There's still so much to learn, and that's exciting. Organizations like the Float Research Collective continue working toward making Floatation-REST better understood, more accessible, and one day more widely integrated into healthcare.

For me, that's one of the coolest parts of owning GH Float.

Every day, we get to share an experience that's rooted not only in decades of research, but in the simple belief that rest is one of the most powerful forms of self-care we can give ourselves.

Float Therapy 101 | Part 7: "Why Did I Cry During My Float?"

This is a question we hear from time to time.

The answer?

Sometimes, when the body finally feels safe enough to rest...it finally feels safe enough to let go.

One of the things I love most about float therapy is that every session is different.

Not because the water changes.

Not because the room changes.

Because you change.

You walk into every float carrying something different than you did the week before.

Maybe you've been navigating grief.

Maybe you've been holding onto stress for months.

Maybe you've become a parent, changed careers, ended a relationship, received a diagnosis, or simply spent too long taking care of everyone else before yourself.

Life has a way of asking us to keep moving.

To keep showing up.

To keep holding it all together.

But when you finally experience real rest—when the constant stimulation quiets and your nervous system begins to settle—your mind may decide it's finally safe to process what it's been carrying.

For some people, that looks like profound peace.

For others, unexpected clarity.

For some, it looks like tears.

Not because something is wrong...

But because something has finally been given the space to be acknowledged.

That doesn't happen during every float.

And it doesn't need to.

Some sessions are deeply physical.

Some are deeply mental.

Some are simply an hour of uninterrupted rest.

Each one meets you exactly where you are.

That's one of the beautiful things about floating.

You don't have to force an experience.

You don't have to chase a particular outcome.

You simply show up.

The float does the rest.

If you've ever become emotional during a float, know this:

You're not alone.

And sometimes, giving yourself permission to rest is the most healing thing you can do.

Next up: What does the research actually say about float therapy? Let's explore the science behind what we've been talking about throughout this series.
