The Capital City Medical Society is the collective voice of African American physicians in Montgomery, AL. The o

rganization is committed to improving the quality of health among minorities and disadvantaged people through its membership, professional development, and community involvement. Throughout its history, the Capital City Medical Society has focused primarily on health issues related to African Americans and medically underserved populations; however, its principles, goals, initiatives and philosophy encompass all ethnic groups. The Capital City Medical Society is also committed to increasing the number of African Americans and other underrepresented groups participating in the medical field. In 2016, the Capital City Medical Society endowed a $25,000 scholarship at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. The UAB Capital City Medical Society scholarship will benefit deserving medical students based on academic merit and financial need. This scholarship is supported by the generous contributions of Capital City Medical Society members, corporations, private philanthropic organizations, and proceeds from scholarship benefit efforts. Throughout the year, the Capital City Medical Society also partners with other community organizations in the River Region, including the Montgomery Chapter of the NAACP, The Links, Incorporated, Medical Advocacy and Outreach, The City of Saint Jude, and the Boys and Girls Club.

Each month, our medical organization sponsors a meeting for members of the Capital City Medical Society and other health care providers. Topics discussed over the past year have included Hepatitis C, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms, Treatments for Varicose Veins, Congestive Heart Failure, New Treatments for HIV Prevention, Interventional Nephrology, and Psoriasis and Hidradenitis Suppurativa in Skin of Color.
