🧬 SKIN SCIENCE: Let’s Talk Layers!
Your skin may look like one simple surface, but underneath, there’s a LOT going on. Think of your skin like a 3-story house—each level has a different job. 🏠✨
1️⃣ EPIDERMIS — The Protective Layer
This is the outer layer you see and touch. It acts like your skin’s security system, helping keep moisture IN and irritants, bacteria, and environmental damage OUT.
This is also where dead skin cells can build up—which is why exfoliation can make your skin look smoother and brighter. ✨
2️⃣ DERMIS — The Support Layer
This is where the good stuff lives: collagen, elastin, blood vessels, hair follicles, and oil glands.
Think of collagen as the skin’s mattress springs—it gives your skin structure and firmness. Elastin is like a rubber band, helping your skin stretch and bounce back.
As we age, we naturally produce less collagen and elastin… hello, fine lines and laxity. 😩
3️⃣ HYPODERMIS — The Cushion Layer
This is the deepest layer beneath the skin and is made mostly of fat and connective tissue. It provides cushioning, insulation, and support and helps give our face and body their shape.
💡 Why does knowing this matter?
Because different skincare products and treatments work at different depths. A facial, peel, microneedling treatment, laser, and injectable aren’t all doing the same thing—and that’s exactly why choosing the RIGHT treatment for your concern matters.
Good skincare isn’t just about what you put on the surface. It’s about understanding what’s happening underneath it. 🧬✨
