Alabama Board of Nursing Alabama Board of Nursing Cybersecurity Incident
The Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) has released an update regarding the recent cybersecurity incident affecting its systems. According to the ABN, its investigation confirmed that some data was collected and downloaded during the incident, and potentially affected information may include names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, professional licensing information, and medical information.
While the ABN has not determined that every licensee’s information was accessed, Alabama CRNAs may wish to take precautionary steps recommended by the Board, including:
• Be cautious of unexpected emails, texts, or calls regarding your nursing license, renewal, fees, refunds, or account verification.
• Change passwords on accounts where you may have reused a password associated with an ABN-related portal.
• Enable multifactor authentication on email, financial, healthcare, and employment accounts.
• Monitor bank accounts, credit cards, credit reports, insurance EOBs, and tax accounts for unfamiliar activity.
• Consider placing a free credit freeze or fraud alert with the major credit bureaus.
The ABN advises licensees to rely on its official website for verified updates and states that it will not proactively request account credentials or passwords by email, text, or unsolicited phone calls.
ALANA will continue to share relevant information with Alabama CRNAs as additional updates become available.
