Let’s take a moment to breathe. 🌿

Did you know that breathing is one of the most foundational pieces of pelvic health? Especially for my hypertonic (or tense 😖) pelvic floor friends.

One of my favorite techniques for nervous system down-training is slowwwwww diaphragmatic breathing with a longer exhale. This style of breathing can help stimulate the vagus nerve, which plays a major role in our parasympathetic nervous system, aka: “rest and digest”. 🥸

When our bodies stay stuck in stress mode (the sympathetic nervous system, aka:(fight, flight, freeze) the pelvic floor often stays tense too.

Try this:

▫️ Inhale gently through your nose for 4 seconds
▫️ Exhale slowly for 6–8 seconds
▫️ Repeat for 1–3 minutes

As you breathe: let your ribs expand, your jaw unclench, your belly soften and expand (think, “breathe into your bottom” 🍑), and envision your pelvic floor gently relaxing (or opening). 🪷

Tomorrow, June 3rd, is Global Running Day! 🏃‍♀️🌎

This is your friendly reminder that leaking urine with running is NOT normal, AND it’s often very treatable with pelvic floor therapy. 🥳🎉

And while we’re here… a “just do kegels” approach without a proper internal pelvic floor assessment to appropriately diagnose YOUR pelvic floor is not a reliable treatment plan (and can sometimes make things worse or cause more issues!). 😎

If leaking, heaviness, pressure, pain, or pelvic floor symptoms are keeping you from fully enjoying running or exercise, please reach out. You do not have to just live with it!!! ✌️🫶💪

There’s a lot going on in this picture. 😅😵‍💫 I get it.

But it’s one of my favorite pictures from my three pregnancies (can you tell I like data 😅). My kiddos were pretty back to back with a year of nursing for each- that’s about 5 1/2 years of either being pregnant or nursing with little time (like a month 😳) in between of living in my own skin.

That can be a lot. 😩

For me, pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing subjectively was a love-hate relationship 🙃. As I approach four years postpartum of my 3rd birth, I look back in wonder and awe of what my body has done.…and what it continues to do. 💪

There are so many seasons that come and go, but one thing is for certain, had I not walked through those three pregnancies I wouldn’t be the provider I am today, or the mother athlete that I continue to strive to be. 🫶

If you need help navigating pregnancy, postpartum, maintaining exercise, or getting back to [insert your goals], just know I’ve been there and it is my absolute joy to walk with others through such a beautiful season of LIFE. 💚⚓️
