The first week of school can bring excitement, exhaustion, and anxiety—all at the same time.
Ask your child open-ended questions such as:
• What was the best part of your day?
• Was anything harder than you expected?
• Who did you spend time with?
• Is there anything you would like help with tomorrow?
Listen for ongoing concerns about friendships, schoolwork, bullying, or feeling unsafe. Changes in sleep, appetite, mood, behavior, or frequent stomachaches and headaches may also indicate that your child needs additional support.
Mental health is part of overall health, and it is always okay to ask for help.
